I’ve said in the past how I wish I could find a bubble to put my kids in when they go out so they don’t get filthy (um, the germ thing obviously comes into play here too) but I know that’s not realistic yet (some mom out there is totally inventing a play bubble, I just know it!) Until then, I get a little giddy when I stumble upon a company like Bersica Futurewear. This company makes clothing items for children that literally repel water and dirt. No really!
Using nanotechnology (I had to look it up, and it’s defined as “the study of the controlling of matter on an atomic and molecular scale”), Bersica makes it possible to transfer the non-stick and self-cleaning process of certain plants and animals in nature into fabrics. Basically, the fabric used in Bersica clothing repels water, other liquids, dirt and oil leaving your precious angel looking as clean and neat at the end of the day as she did at the beginning.
We were sent a Baby Girl Polo from Bersica Futurewear in size 2T to try. When I received the product and read about the ability of the fabric to repel water and dirt, I of course wondered what chemicals were used in the shirt (thinking about the chemicals used to keep my couch clean in the same manner). I was happy to learn that Bersica Futurewear is free of harmful chemicals.
I wasn’t about to throw a bunch of grape juice on my daughter for the sake of testing the shirt but I didn’t have to. I have a 2 year old, food and drinks and general crud can find her pretty easily. I thought we’d try soup the day I put her Bersica Futurewear shirt on her. Normally she wears a bib but that day, we experimented! It was pretty amazing watching the liquid just roll off the shirt. Note that it’s a good idea to protect the pants on your little ones (I put a dishcloth on her lap because yep, that’s where all the soup rolled to!)
I think Bersica Futurewear is pretty amazing, though I’m not sure I would use it for every day wear with my kids (kids have to get dirty, it’s a right of childhood…I know you’re surprised I’m saying that right?!) I do think, however, that clothing from Bersica Futurewear would be perfect for a function where keeping clean is important (weddings, important events, ect.)
