Keurig Platinum Brewing System

It’s funny, these past few months whenever I see a Keurig in a friend’s kitchen, or even in a facebook photo, I notice it immediately. It’s obviously because I’ve been wanting one and Santa came early this year when Keurig generously sent me my own Keurig Platinum Brewing System to review! Why the excitement over a coffee brewer? Probably, in a simple explanation, because the Keurig Platinum Brewing System is so much more than just a coffee brewer. One machine can also make tea, hot chocolate (or cocoa as it seems it’s called more so in the US), and iced beverages too. Oh, and the best part? Everyone can have what they want, because the Keurig is a single-cup brewer.Just looking at the amount of K-Cups (single servings) available for the Keurig brewers can make your head spin. The Keurig site breaks it down so that you can be really picky on the specific type of beverage you are looking for (how about extra-bold flavored coffee?) or you can just check off “select all” in any of the categories to see everything available. There’s also customer reviews on the site which I found really helpful. Of course, nothing appeals to everyone but reading the comments gives you an idea on whether you would like a specific blend or not.

I am still trying out the variety of K-Cups I was sent with my brewer and haven’t settled on a favorite yet. Truthfully, I am finding most of them really strong. I have asked around and most people are really happy with the flavor strength of the K-Cup coffees so it must be that I like my coffee weak! It’s not a big deal because I can easily add hot water to my coffee. I’m still on the search for the ideal blend for both my husband and I though. I want to try out the great selection of K-Cup cocoas so on my next shopping trip that is what I’ll be looking for.
A great feature of the Keurig Platinum Brewing System is that you can select between 5 serving sizes (small 4 oz all the way up to a travel mug size of 12 oz) which is helpful when, like me, you find the coffee quite strong. I brew mine on either the 10 oz mug or 12 oz travel mug setting. I also can pre-set my favorite size (travel mug) and don’t have to fiddle with the setting each time. Oh, another setting – I can have the brewer “on” and ready to go during a specific time period each day (I keep mine on from 8am to 4pm). That way, the brewer isn’t constantly using energy to keep the water hot all day like like my old Tim Horton’s Bunn Brewer would (which annoyed me, who needs the water heating up at 3 am?)

I love being able to try different coffee, tea, or cocoa throughout the day. In the morning I can have a regular cup of Timothy’s coffee, and in the afternoon perhaps a flavored coffee from Green Mountain. Plus, when having company how much fun is it to be able to offer your guests an assortment of drinks? Nothing is wasted – no coffee poured down the drain because it has sat too long in the pot. Overall I have been so happy with my Keurig Platinum Brewing System, and my old brewer has been put away in a box. Now it’s just a matter of finding my favorite coffee…oh the choices!
