I’m an over-packer. I try not to be, but I always say I’d rather have extra items/clothing on a trip than the alternative. With kids ages 5 and (almost) 2, there’s a good chance that they’re going to go through more than 1 shirt in a day, especially when travelling.
The problem, of course, is that we drive an SUV (not a nice large minivan) so my over packing results in extra bags. I have found a product that is like the super-bag for over packing moms like myself. When I had the opportunity to check out the Alpha Sherpa 5-in-1 Backpack from the Manitoba based Baby Sherpa (Canadian Headquarters) I couldn’t wait (my husband was eager to eliminate some of my luggage too!) The Alpha Sherpa Backpack from Baby Sherpa has so many compartments and storage areas that it was like a bit of a science experiment checking out the bag for the first time and discovering the functionality of it.
The Alpha Sherpa Backpack is essentially 5 bags combined into 1. Of course you can toss all your items into 1 bag and carry them but they’re not going to arrive safely. This is a true 5-in-1 Backpack with separate compartments for all your needs.
- Padded Laptop backpack- holds most 14 inch laptops
- Cooler soft-sided storage for snacks & beverages
- Parent pack includes a bonus change pad, insulated bottle holder, abundant storage
- Video padded, interior pocket.
- Pockets for your mobile devices and other valuables
We don’t do a lot (read: any) hiking, but travelling with 2 kids through an amusement park, zoo, or corn maze feels like climbing a mountain sometimes. Either my husband or myself ends up feeling like a pack mule with all the bags and gear we end up carrying (backpack, camera bag, diaper bag, to name a few). We took the Alpha Sherpa 5-in-1 Backpack with us recently on a road trip. The feature I liked the most was the insulated cooler! How great to have an area for drinks and snacks without having to lug a bulky square cooler in the car (this would be ideal for families travelling with babies who need to keep bottles cool). Having the perfect spot to fit my camera and blackberry was great (the ideal size, no worries about your electronics being tossed around).
The bottle holders on the outside were perfect (nice and snug, sometimes bottle holders on bags don’t hold the bottles in nicely) and I appreciated one of them being insulated. Something that I didn’t think I’d use but did was the Bungee X cord on the front – it’s perfect for slipping a stray jacket in (when your toddler tosses it at the mall, for example).
