Alvin and the Chipmunks

This past month, we received two Alvin and the Chipmunks DVDs to review, much to the excitement of my son who is 5 and discovered Alvin and the Chipmunks when we went to see the updated movie version in theaters. Although I liked the movie and music, I missed seeing the original chipmunks since the 2007 version on the big screen did not look like the lovable chipmunks I loved back in the 80’s.

Having these 2 DVDs makes up for it, because my 80’s Chipmunks are back! Alvin, Simon and Theodore (doo, doo, do do do do!) are back in Alvin and the Chipmunks Go To The Movies: Star Wreck. The trio brings us a spoof of a combination of Star Wars and Star Trek (Star Wreck) and Dick Tracy (Chip Tracy). Listen for “Bad Moon Rising” (CCR) performed by the Chipmunks in Star Wreck and “Real Wild Child” (Iggy Pop) in Chip Tracy. The third episode is a ‘mystery’ theme (Sherlock Holmes inspired) titled, Elementary My Dear Simon.

Now, if even the 80’s version of the Chipmunks isn’t what you remember, you’d love Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Very First Alvin Show released for the first time on DVD September 8, 2009. This DVD includes the very first episode of the classing Chipmunks show from 1961. This is the DVD we watched first as a family and although I thought my son might be bored with the nostalgic look of the cartoon graphics, he still watched intently and laughed throughout.

Both Alvin and the Chipmunks DVDs are in stores now.
