Chicken Soup for the Soul – Tough Times, Tough People (closed)

The official title of this book is: Chicken Soup for the Soul: Tough Times, Tough People: 101 Stories about Overcoming the Economic Crisis and Other Challenges. What a relevant book right now! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t know someone who has been laid off or is unable to find work lately.

The book’s synopsis: Chicken Soup for the Soul: Tough Times, Tough People reminds us that tough times won’t last, but tough people will. Tough People is all about overcoming adversity, pulling together, making do with less, facing challenges, and finding new joys in a simpler life. This new collection shares tales of people who have been laid off, lost their homes, and endured wrenching life changes, but discovered the underlying gifts in their new situations. More time at home with family, creative “staycations,” more satisfying job opportunities, and renewed gratitude for health and life are just a few of the silver linings these survivors have learned to cherish.

I had not read a Chicken Soup for the Soul book in quite some time, so it was nice to get back into them again. I have found, lately, that reading an entire book takes me quite some time because, of course, life gets in the way. What I, and so many others, like about the Chicken Soup for the Soul series is that the stories are all short – you can read a few and put the book aside and you’re not scrambling to figure out what happened in the last chapter when you pick it up again. It’s a great bedside book to have, or in my case it was great to have outside in the yard to read while my kids played.

If you know someone who has recently been laid off or is experiencing some tough times lately, this book would make a great gift. It’s something you can give when you want to help someone, but have no idea what to say or do. Maybe you are going through some not so fun times right now yourself – this book really is inspiring as it’s written by everyday people. If they can muddle through, so too can we all.

I have three copies to give away! To enter, just leave me a comment here – say hello, tell me if you’ve won on my blog before, comment on a recent book you’ve read, just say something more than “Enter me!”
