Lesley Roberts, the founder of Hankettes, has a great bio on her site about how Hankettes came to be and how she and her family live on the Sunshine Coast of BC, Canada.
Hankettes goal as a company is to continually find a way to replace standard disposable products with reusable ones; their first product was reusable organic cotton handkercheifs (achoo!)
Now, Hankettes line includes many more products for the family and home including cloth diapers and liners, organic cotton sheets (including crib sheets), face scrubs, and even reusable coffee filters, to name a few.
I love how a company, excuse the pun, unfolds like this – it starts with a vision and goal to create just one product and then through hard work and perseverance (Hankettes started in 1996), the company grows to include so many other products and a customer base of loyal customers who know not only the quality but the bigger family behind Hankettes.
Hankettes sent me their Wet Wipes Travel Kit, the smaller version of their original Wet Wipes Kit. The Travel Kit consists of 3 organic cotton wipes and a 60ml spray bottle of Wet Wipes Solution. Made with tea tree and chamomile, the wet wipes solution is a natural chemical free way to keep sticky fingers (and faces and bums) clean on the go!
I don’t cloth diaper but have considered the idea of making my own wipes in the past – I have a friend who used to make her own wipes and bring them to our mommies group to be met with ohhhs and ahhhs from all of us.
I decided to keep the Wet Wipes Travel Kit in the diaper bag for on-the-go clean ups. Normally I use the on-the-go style wipes made my popular diaper companies but I find them to be quite strong smelling. My 18 month old sticks her tongue out when I wipe her face and I hate that she’s literally liking the wipe as it crosses her mouth.
The Wet Wipes Travel Kit from Hankettes has been easy to integrate into our routine in the car. We recently took a road trip and I used the wipes to keep the kid’s hands clean while eating on the go in the car. One perk is that I can decide how wet the wipe is (many times I have found disposable wipes to be too dry). I did cheat and took along a zip-loc bag to put the dirty wipes in for washing later but other than that I felt pretty good about doing my little part on our trip to help reduce our waste.
If you are looking for a way to make a small step towards being more eco-friendly, or if you are already an eco powerhouse, Hankettes is a great resource for all things natural (and because it’s Canadian that makes it extra special!)
