Maddison Avenue specializes in eco-friendly soy candles. Why soy? Well, as the site explains, soy is cleaner burning and lead free, as well as environmentally friendly. Soy candles from Maddison Avenue contain no pesticides or herbicides as well as absolutely no paraffin, petroleum or beeswax.

Did you know that a soy candle only has to contain 25% soy to actually be called a soy candle? 100% soy wax candles, like the kind Maddison Avenue produces, melt like oil and therefore can’t be pillar or votive candles (jar candles is what you’re looking for here). Maddison Avenue sent me a Spa Tumbler soy candle (like the ones pictured above) in Beach House scent to review. The site describes this scent as a fresh coconut just cracked open from the husk. My explanation of the scent is that it smells like suntanning, or a tanning salon (but in a fresh sweet coconut way, not in the sweaty hot tanning bed you entered kind of way!)

I love how a scent can evoke a memory, and burning this candle is so soothing for that reason. In the past few nights burning it, I’ve walked downstairs and taken a deep breath while thinking about the summer months to come. I say it’s soothing because if I look out my window all I see right now is melting snow and puddles so it makes me remember that summer will come…eventually!

I can feel good about burning this candle, because it’s 100% natural soy. I’m not emitting any chemicals into the air in the house but can still enjoy a fresh scent while my windows are closed off from fresh air.
