We are Veggie Tales fans in this house. I discovered Veggie Tales through my friends and their children before I had my own, and knew that I would want to bring the Veggie Tales line of programming into my house. We have a few old VHS episodes and catch it on tv on Saturdays, but this is the first Veggie Tales dvd we’ve owned (Thank you Veggie Tales and the Family Review Network!)
While Veggie Tales teach children about Christianity, values and religion, they don’t come across as ‘preachy’ to parents and children. Children know when they’re being talked AT as opposed to talked WITH and the creators of Veggie Tales do an excellent job of appealing to children. We’re not an overly religious family. We’re Christian, we teach our children about God and values, but we also don’t attend church. Great companies like Big Idea, who bring us Veggie Tales, help parents like me teach their children some great fundamentals through some of the favorite Bible stories of children.
The newest release from Veggie Tales is Abe and the Amazing Promise. The dvd actually has two stories about the virtue of patience. An appealing idea to teach children, don’t you think? The first is about Abraham and Sarah and their promised son, and the second is about a town in a flurry of invention, and how we need to take the time to do things the right way for the best result.
Add to the stories a few spitting camels, a nervous nurse with an eye twitch, and some great musical numbers, and you have 53 minutes of fun where children are actually learning something without even realizing they’re being taught!
If you’re already a fan of Veggie Tales, this newest release won’t leave you disappointed. If you’re new to Veggie Tales, give them a chance. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
