When die-hard New Yorker and publicist E.J. Baxter (Kristen Chenoweth) loses both her high-powered Manhattan job and her lawyer-fiancé at her office Christmas party, she winds up taking a job and moving to Montana. To help the local search-and-rescue station raise desperately needed funds, she convinces the male rescue workers to pose for a naked calendar. Along the way, she discovers what really matters to her and wins the heart of one of the pin-ups!
After putting the kids to bed last night, I retired to my bedroom myself and settled in to watch this movie. It’s definitely not one that my husband would have (willingly) sat through but it’s a great movie for a quiet Friday night. It’s light, fun, and perfect for when you just want to sit back and watch a holiday movie, without any deep plot twists or thought-provoking discussion afterwards. Is it light? Yes. Bubble-gum? Maybe. But Kristen Chenoweth is adorable as the lead, and Josh Hopkins (Cougar Town. Private Practice) is a great match – the dialogue between them is great. It was only later when reading about the other actors that I realized My Girl’s Anna Chlumsky plays EJ’s assistant and friend – I wouldn’t have recognized her on my own.
