Aden + Anais

Not only is October Breast Cancer Awareness month (a topic that has come up a few times on my blog this month), it’s also SIDS Awareness Month.  It’s not something we like to think about, but something we must.  Education is one way we can safeguard ourselves against this horrible syndrome – the more we learn, the more we can do to safeguard our babies.  That’s why continual research and education is so very important.

Aden + Anais, home to the very popular Muslin Baby Wraps, has been partnered with the CJ Foundation for SIDS since 2009.  Aden + Anais donates a portion of their profits to the CJ Foundation for SIDS and their Sleep in Safety, Grow in Style campaign.

The CJ Foundation Sleep in Safety, Grow in Style campaign aims to educate consumers and raise public awareness about what constitutes a safe sleep for infants.  Their website has great information on Sleep Safety including why it’s important not to overheat your baby.  I also learned that offering your baby a pacifier at sleep time can help as well, as pacifiers have been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS.

Muslin Baby Wraps by Aden + Anais are ideal for swaddling infants for sleep because the fabric composition is perfect for this practice.  Swaddling in itself is an art that I was never very good at, but now I know that it likely had a lot to do with the quality of the wrap I was using.

Muslin is a finely woven breathable fabric believed to have originated in Bangladesh in the Middle Ages.  The delicate (it feels like your favorite t-shirt) yet durable weave makes the fabric stretchy (which is ideal for swaddling because you don’t feel like you’re restricting the baby with a tight, uncomfy fabic).

Lightweight muslin permits air circulation while still providing warmth and comfort.  The Cozy Swaddle, in fact, is a double-layer of Muslin to provide extra warmth without worry of overheating because of the breathable nature of the fabric.  I received a Cozy Swaddle courtesy of Aden + Anais and can’t wait to try it out with the baby.  I feel confident that I can figure swaddling out, especially having a cozy, lightweight fabric like muslin to work with.  To learn more about muslin, click here.
