Moms, have you picked up your gifts from the kids (and you of course) for Father’s Day for hubby this year? My husband and I have a long-running joke that we are going to buy exactly what we want for ourselves for mother’s day and father’s day, because it just makes life easier. A spa day gift certificate is great and all but I had the ‘promise’ of one for a gift one year and I still haven’t collected on that!
I realized that it’s much easier to just suggest something that would be useful for the household, that I would like myself too, and that way everyone is happy. An example, for Mother’s Day this year I suggested getting one of those beautiful outdoor fountains that trickle water (and make you feel like you should go inside and pee, lol). It worked out well.
For Fathers Day this year, consider technology. My husband keeps muttering on about a new receiver for the tv (we have one…?) so finding something more useful, yet techy, was ideal. Win, win! I was asked if I’d like to check out the Flip Ultra for Father’s Day and of course I said yes (and then smiled mischievously over my computer monitor at my husband…oh how awesome I am to get him such a great product!)
The Flip Ultra is a pocket sized camcorder, perfect for dads to put in their shirt pocket or slip in their jacket on the way out to soccer. Because there’s no it’s very easy to transport and therefore you might actually get some video of your little one’s sporting activities for the grandparents this year. Our video camera, my handheld DVD one, is collecting dust in a closet somewhere.
It’s big and bulky and with everything else I have to carry to swimming lessons, for example, it’s just one more bag I don’t want to bother with. If I can’t bother to carry my video camera, when I carry everything else like a pack mule some days, you can be guaranteed my husband won’t be bothered to take our video camera either.
The Flip Ultra is ideal because of it’s pocket size but also because of it’s durability. Although it’s small, it’s not delicate or fragile looking.
The dimensions are 4.25″ x 2.19″ x 1.17″ (H x W x D), yet the screen size is quite big at 2.0″.
The back of the camera is very simple – the screen takes up the top 2.0″ and the bottom area consists of 4 buttons (power, play, record, delete) and then a 4 way navigation button.
Guys will appreciate that the buttons are not tiny, and that the Flip Ultra looks sporty. You will all appreciate the 2 hours of high quality recording time on a 4GB of built-in memory. No worrying about whether or not taking a quick video clip will leave you unable to take pictures with your digital camera.
I have secretly been playing with our new Flip Ultra (in yellow) for the past week and luckily neither of my kids have busted me around thier dad asking me where the “yellow video camera” is. I really like the large 2.0″ screen and how sturdy this little device feels in my hand. I have a smaller version of the Flip (Flip Mino) and while each serves it’s own purpose, I know my husband is going to really like the Flip Ultra because it’s just a little bigger than the Mino. The Flip Ultra camcorder makes it so easy to capture those every day moments that you didn’t realize were special until years later when you say to your husband, “Remember when he was 3 and played soccer?” I wish I had videotaped it then.
