I am such a big fan of fitflop shoes and sandals! Not because I think they are doing to take me down to a size 4 anytime soon on their own, but because realistically these shoes help tone my legs, thighs and butt which a regular pair of sandals can’t do and they happen to be unbelievably comfortable! fitflop is celebrating their 3rd anniversary and the buzz just keeps on building about these great shoes. Launched in 2007, fitlfop landed on Oprah’s Favorite Things for Summer in 2008, though that was just the beginning of the worldwide attention fitflop has gained.. I started wearing fitflop sandals last summer when I was sent a pair to review. I wondered if the hype about the shoes was just that – hype.
After my first day wearing the shoes (all day), my legs punished me for it the next day. How on earth could regular walking make my muscles tender? That was fitflop. I wore my fitflop Walkstar sandals (in pistachio which are discontinued now) all summer long – to the West coast, to beautiful Sylvan Lake, and to the park with the kids. Not a single day of pain or blisters all summer!
This past fall I reluctantly packed away my sandals, but was thrilled to find out fitflop had a winter boot and shoe collection! I reviewed the fitflop Mukluk and that was my go-to winter boot.
With spring finally here, I happily pulled out my fitflop Walkstar sandals once again (oddly enough, while other sandals end up stinky by the end of one summer and usually get tossed, the fitflop sandals don’t hold any odor).
My husband grumbled about “never getting anything” like fitflops to review, but little did he know that fitflop was generously sending both my husband and I brand new fitflops from their Summer ’10 collection to review! My husband was sent the Daas fitflop for men in black (oddly enough, the description of this shoe starts out with For the thousands of men who asked, “where’s mine?”, just like my husband said!)
After all his grumbling about wanting fitflops, he was actually hesitant to try these shoes because he doesn’t like this style of sandal (between the toes). However, the fact that physiotherapists and leading podiatrists recommend this shoe for injury recovery and realignment and the reputation these shoes have for relieving back and knee joint pain held some weight and my husband gave them a try. He know wears them every single day.
Though we love the warm summer months, we should not be walking around in poor quality sandals just because summer is a laid-back kind of season. It’s so important to take care of not only your feet but your knees and back. Among the benefits, fitflop can help increase leg, calf and gluteal muscle activity, improve your posture, simulate aspects of barefoot walking but with more muscle load, and of course improve muscle tone.
While the Daas fitflop sandals for men are probably not sold for their bum-toning abilities, men are likely purchasing them for the comfort they can provide (and if my husband’s bum is more toned by the end of the summer, who am I to complain?)
I was sent the Walkstar 3 sandal in one of the brand new colors for Summer ’10, Fuchsia Patent. These are perfect for matching my summer outfits and adding a splash of color when needed. Since our new house has hardwood/laminate, I found that more often than not I’d wake up with sore feet in the morning (not to mention the annoyance of walking barefoot and finding crumbs underfoot).
I decided to, for the first bit anyway, keep these fitflop sandals as my indoor sandals for the summer (I will resist wearing them outside for as long as I can, but no promises!) Wearing them indoors has made a noticeable difference in foot tenderness in the mornings (when I wear them all day inside, there’s no sore feet in the mornings). I was wearing a cheap pair of sandals (literally those foam ones for like $2) indoors from time to time before that but ended up with blisters so that wasn’t helping any at all. fitflop sandals are a great investment for indoor wear all year round if you have hardwood or laminate flooring like I do.
Take a look at all the testimonials on the site to read more feedback about fitflop. I don’t doubt that if my bum is more toned by the end of the summer, my husband won’t complain either. 😉
