Oh how I love the Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum program (Canadian company for those US readers scratching their heads right now). About twice a year I can redeem my points for $200 in free products, and the thing is until March I didn’t even live in the same city as a Shoppers Drug Mart! I am always blabbing to my friends about 20x points day (my sister is a points collector like me!) and although some take advantage others do not (which kills me!)
Take today, for example. 20x the points day on everything once you spend $50. It’s not difficult to spend $50 but it was even easier for me since they had the new Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Wii in stock, selling for $60 which is the same price elsewhere. Why buy it from Walmart when I can get it at a store that gives me something back? My son’s birthday is next month and this was at the top of his list!
So, I purchased that item and other household items (all on sale) that I’d normally buy elsewhere but purchased at Shoppers today for the points – things like tampons, paper towels, salad dressing, bread, cereal, etc. If it’s the same price elsewhere why not get the points? There’s a points calculator right on their website to help you figure out what you’ll walk away with.So today I spent $100 and got 20,000 points which is worth $25 back whenever I want to redeem them. $60 of that purchase was the game I was going to get anyway and the other $40 was household items I needed. Win, win! Even better? Save up your points for a bonus redemption weekend, which Shoppers has every few months. Your points are worth even more then (that’s when I typically cash-out).
It’s been awhile since I’ve had a FREE shopping spree, and now I have about $400 to spend on a bonus weekend when it comes. The question then, what to buy…so many possibilities (two carts most time, my husband got over the embarrassment of this long ago.)
So, if it’s raining in your part of Canada like it is here, get out there and go shopping! No, there’s no referral program with Shoppers (if there was I’d kick butt with it for the amount of blabbing I do) but go get a card in the store if you don’t have one already. Happy shopping!
