Teach My Preschooler

Teach My is a company I am very fond of.  In the winter of 2009 I received the Teach My Toddler set to review (click here for Teach My Toddler Review), at a time when Elijah was 4 and Nevaeh was just 15 months.   Though Elijah loved it, it was covering concepts he already knew, and Nevaeh was still a little too young for it at that point.  Now, the Teach My team has come up with Teach My Preschooler which would have been the perfect fit for him back then at 4 years old!  This is the third in the series including Teach My Baby, Teach My Toddler and Teach My Preschooler.

I love the way these kits are put together – everything you need is enclosed inside a handy file folder with a latch and handle so you can pack it all away nicely when not in use.  Although, many of the pieces work as great  posters for a playroom or bedroom for continual reminders and learning.

Perfect for ages 3-5 years, the kit gives children the tools to help prepare themselves for Kindergarten (hard to think about when they are 3 but the years go by in a blink!)  The kit is divided into four sections:  Ready to Read (includes ten books and 60 flashcards), Ready to Print (includes a print guide, printing  board, and print transparencies which are really great for tracing letters), Ready for 1-100 (includes a book, foam numbers, a large poster and flashcards) and Ready for Math (includes 2 books, a double sided poster, 5 counters and foam pieces).

With both the kits I have, Teach My Toddler and Teach My Preschooler, I feel like a little mommy-teacher which essentially is what we are at home.  We can’t and shouldn’t wait for preschool and school teachers to tackle the basics with our children.  It can be daunting though, and many of us have no idea where to start.  The Teach My kits are awesome for that reason.  The way they are divided helps moms stay on task and organized – you can tackle a section at a time or pull elements from each one as needed.  I like that they incorporate visual aids like the posters and the foam pieces (in the Teach My Toddler set, we have foam numbers and letters as well as shapes).

If you know a mom at home with her kids looking for ways to incorporate learning into the daily routine, this is such an excellent tool.  I also think it would be beneficial to nursery school classrooms if you’re looking for the perfect gift for the teacher (something a few moms could even pitch in for, rather than a bath products basket…believe me, she has several of those already!)

Parents (and grandparents!) can purchase the Teach My products online or at a local store using the store locator on the website. I used the search feature to look for locations here in Saskatchewan and found one at Home & School Connection in Regina, for those local readers who may be interested.

You can easily buy Teach My Preschooler at Amazon.com for $49 right now (I checked!)
