What music do you play for your children, especially your toddlers? Yes, I know, many toddlers love a good dance song and laughs erupt in our house when Nevaeh shakes her diapered booty to whatever I’m listening to on the stereo. What, though, do you listen to specifically for them? My son has a few cd’s from various cartoon characters and they make me a little…insane. I can only tolerate so much of a high pitched voice telling me to “Go! Go! Go!”
Creator Raimond Lap set out to create music that would not only stimulate young and curious minds, but also soothe and calm depending on the need. A mixture described as “the right combination of classical influences and modern styled music”, Lovely Baby CDs are world-renowned, sold in over 80 countries.
When I first saw the website and read about the music, I admit I was skeptical. I suspected that I would hear more classical music that would bore me to tears like other music I purchased in the past (with my first baby, I actually bought a cd of classical music to play through headphones placed on my belly…that lasted a day because if I couldn’t stand the music, how could my baby?)
After browsing the site, I turned up my speakers on the computer and sampled a few of the songs available. I was more than surprised at how much I actually liked this music, and hoped that Lovely Baby would be interested in sharing their music with my readers.
Lovely Baby has a whole section on Your Baby’s Brain & Music so I’m not going to go through all the FAQs here, but one point really stood out. They state that contrary to popular belief, classical music wasn’t intended for babies in the first place (which, we sort of already know, it wasn’t as though Bach was thinking about the cooing baby next door when he was composing). It’s music that is intended for adults and along the way, we sort of got swept up in the frenzy that we needed classical music to stimulate our babies, lest we be left with a child that was not classically trained. (insert raised eyebrow here)
I think Lovely Baby is on to something here. There’s no sense in listening to music that no one likes. Having music on, either to directly listen and dance to or on in the background, should be a pleasurable experience for the family.
Lovely Baby has a huge selection of CDs available right now, and you can sample music from all their CDs right on the website. I had the opportunity to review 4 Lovely Baby CDs with my family – Lovely Baby CD No 1, Lovely Baby Magic, Lovely Baby and Mommy and Lovely Sleepy Baby.
Lovely Baby CD No.1 is the one we listen to the most, and this is our favorite song from it, titled Lovely Baby Reggae (click to listen)
From Lovely Baby Magic No.1, we liked Magical Singing Baby (click to listen) the best. Just this morning, I put on this song and my daughter came running over to the cd player with the biggest grin on her face. She likes the “La, la, la!” of the singing baby in this tune (you’ll see!)
From Lovely Baby and Mommy, You Can Sing Along is adorable, and I also like Sleepy Baby, Close Your Eyes but don’t listen to it if you’re at all sentimental about those precious baby years. It makes me teary! (Great gift idea for Mother’s Day, by the way)
And finally, for bedtime routine time, or even just as music to have on in the background during quiet play before bed, Lovely Sleepy Baby is great. Toddler’s Rest is soothing and actually this whole cd reminds me of what you would hear at a baby spa…soothing music to relax to just for babies.
All 4 CDs that we have all easily integrate into our household. What I mean is that I can pop this cd on in the play area while I’m typing away at the computer and the kids are playing on the floor and it sort of blends into the background. More than once I’ve had a cd on for playtime before bed and realized later, once the kids are in bed, that it’s still on repeat as I’m working away at the desk.
Lovely Baby CDs have been so great to work with and I’m so happy to have found them. Even big brother Elijah, at 4, likes the music but in the end it’s Nevaeh who really loves her CDs. The way her face lights up when she hears “her babies” in the music is priceless.
Lovely Baby CDs have offered CDs to 6 of my readers! That’s right, 3 readers are going to win Lovely Baby Magic No.1 and 3 readers are going to win Lovely Baby and Mommy!
