It’s a Blender! It’s a Juicer! It’s…It’s…the Breville Bluicer!

Honestly, if Breville is looking for a new commercial advertising director, I’ve got lots of spare time now – they should know my talents are unmatched.

Earlier in the year, when life was normal and we were all blindly optimistic, Breville sent me one of their newest products and I was so ready to jump in with all the recipes I could create with an appliance that is like a mega two-in-one-machine-of-all-the-things!

Bluicing is Breville’s term for adding fresh juice to a blended mix. Both blending and juicing have been hugely popular in recent years, but if you’ve been only doing one or the other, you’re missing out on maximizing the benefits that bluicing offers. Of course, you could do both up until now, but your counter top would be full and your wallet more empty. The Breville Buicer allows you to combine different flavours and textures like you never could before – simply, using only one appliance.

We like juicing, but juicing alone doesn’t give you the fibre you need. However, if you bluice (adding fresh juice as the liquid component to your blended mixes), you’re able to maximize the vitamins, minerals, enzymes, fibre and nutrient content for greater impact. Bluicing is sort of a wellness hack – we’ve had both blending and juicing in front of us, but now the two can be combined to elevate your own recipes for drinks, sauces, marinades and more.

Now, back to when I got the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro and that optimism I had. Once Covid19 hit the news and we were in lockdown, that optimism shifted. The idea of blending and juicing wasn’t nearly as appealing and frankly, if I wasn’t the one picking out my produce at the grocery store with online ordering, I wasn’t going to buy a bunch of stuff to make smoothies and juices (and bluices!) So, here we are today – back going to grocery stores (with a mask, always) and I’m feeling a little more creative.

But, because I am who I am, I discovered you could make sangria slush using the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro and all my thoughts of healthy juices and smoothies went out the window.

Since this drink in particular was a blender drink only, you can see how the Bluicer is configured as a blender (the juicer set up is in the previous pic). Cool, right? No need for two machines on your counter to get both jobs done. Now back to the sangria!

The recipe is super simple, and you can of course add other fruit to the mix or eliminate the fruit you don’t like. Next time I will use a berry mix that doesn’t include blackberries because I find them annoying in my teeth.

Sangria Slush

  • 2 cups frozen berry blend
  • 12 small oranges, peeled
  • 2 cups red wine
  • 1/3 cup Triple Sec (orange liqueur)
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • ice as needed
  1. Add all ingredients to the blender, starting with an additional 1 cup of ice, and blend until smooth.

The result is a fruity, feisty little slushy drink that you can very easy accidentally pour too much of because – slush.

Making Sangria Slush in the Breville 3x Bluicer Pro was super-easy and adding as much ice as needed was no problem either thanks to the Kinetix Bowl and Blade System. It combines the functionality of a powerful blender with some food processing tasks for versatility and convenience. Crush and chop to turn ice into snow, fold and aerate for creamy smoothies and soups!

Other features of the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro include:

5 One Touch Programs: One touch programs feature optimized time and speed combinations to produce tastier results. Enjoy dairy smoothies and smoother green smoothies thanks to the two smoothie programs. Turn ice into snow with pulse/ice crush or easily create delicious fresh cocktails with the frozen cocktail one touch program.

Space Saving Design: Beyond the versatility of having 2 products in 1, you save space with one base and you can blend, juice or bluicer using the same base. Also, with the pulp bin located behind the product base, the 3X Bluicer Pro features a new and unique space saving design for a better use of your countertop space.

Cold Spin Technology: Allows juice to flow up and through the stainless steel cutting disc surrounded by an Italian-made mesh filter to ensure an insignificant temperature increase, less than 1.8Β°F.

Extra Wide Feed Chute: Featuring an even bigger 3.5 inch/88mm feed chute, the 3X Bluicer Pro allows you to juice whole fruits and vegetables without pre-cutting. Yes, you can (and I have) put in a whole apple to juice which makes life way easier!

Look for the Breville 3X Bluicer Pro (msrp: $629.99) at Breville.ca, Hudson’s Bay, and it looks like Bed Bath & Beyond has the 3X Bluicer (not the Pro, but check in store to be sure!).
