Breville Barista Pro Review

This past year, we’ve become an “espresso in the morning” kind of family, thanks to our Breville Bambino Plus that we received around this same time last year. The machine was (and is) absolutely perfect for our family of 2 plus 1 latte drinkers every morning. Yes, my teenage son would regularly take a vanilla latte to high school in a travel mug some mornings. Raise them up right, right?

The Bambino Plus is a great intro-machine if you’re uncertain about how often you’ll make barista beverages for your family, if you’re short on counter space (it’s compact size is awesome) or want a quality machine at a lower price point ($699.99 at Breville.ca compared to other larger machines, which we’ll get to next.)

So, when Breville offered me the Breville Barista Pro to review in our household, I was unsure if it was necessary – the Bambino Plus had been doing a great job – but I’m not going to say no to a gorgeous new machine for our household either. The Barista Pro boasts a $1099 retail price tag, about $400 more than the Bambino Plus. It’s also larger than the Bambino’s compact size. Thankfully, it fits perfectly on my counter and now it’s a part of our family!

The two major changes, or advances, from the Bambino Plus beyond size itself is the fully intuitive interface – a LCD display with grinding and extracting progress animations. The screen provides you all the precise information you need to make coffee exactly the way you like it, every time.

The second, is the integrated conical burr grinder! With my other machine, we either had to purchase espresso grinds (which is no big deal until you grind them fresh and become a coffee snob like I did) or move to purchasing a separate grinding machine. With a single touch, the integrated conical burr grinder with dose control delivers the right amount of coffee on demand, for maximum flavour.

I shared a cute video on IGTV sharing our morning coffee routine (yummy raspberry vanilla latte routine, to be exact). We are fully committed now to our fully integrated and user friendly Breville Barista Pro! What’s to become of our Breville Bambino Plus? It’s coming along on our Christmas vacation to Okotoks, Alberta to my sister’s house for Christmas lattes all holiday long!
