Keeping Families Connected: The Nixplay Seed

My mom is 79 years old and has had an iPad for about 2 years now. She’s learned how to Google, and her favorite use for it has certainly been texting her kids and grandkids. Technology has opened up a wonderful mode of communication for her – she can text people and await their reply, without worry that someone is busy with the kids or can’t answer the phone because well, who answers the phone anymore?

One aspect of texting that’s been a bit troublesome for her has been when we send her photos. She receives them, but sometimes opening them on her screen causes her to be unable to close the photo after, or she can’t quite get back to it (scroll, scroll, scroll) when she wants to show someone else.

When Nixplay approached me asking if I’d like to review the Nixplay Seed 10.1 Inch Widescreen WiFi Digital Photo Frame with Alexa Integration ($199.99), I knew it would be perfect for her household. Yes, adding another technology-loaded product to her life might seem overwhelming, but in all actuality it’s worked to make her life easier, and has been super-fun for her kids and grandkids to send her photos easily. Here’s why.

Using the Nixplay mobile app for iPhone & Android (or by emailing them directly to the Nixplay speed frame), we can now send photos directly to her to view, in an ever changing slideshow of photos that not only displays on her Photo Frame all day long, it also turns on and off automatically with a time setting programmed right into it! You can certainly turn the frame on and off on your own with the remote provided, but for ease of use this just made the most sense!

Set up takes no time at all (you simply scan a bar code to sync the frame with your app) and you can immediately start sending photos to the frame using the Nixplay App. Then, simply email your friends and family directly from the app itself to invite them to join in the fun by downloading the app and contributing to the albums. Users can also delete photos within those albums later.

Beyond, in our example, using this frame for seniors to keep in touch with families, this would also be super cute for parents to use at the office (they can upload photos themselves to display and then have the kids add them as well for little surprises) or just as a household photo frame that the whole family can contribute to.

Look for the Nixplay Seed 10.1 Inch Widescreen WiFi Digital Photo Frame on Amazon.ca for $199.99 plus free shipping. You can also check out reviews from other users of the frame on Amazon and from my quick check, it looks like I’m not alone in my happiness with this frame and it’s easy, versatile, app!

Disclosure: Nixplay provided us with a frame for review. Baba is grateful.
