Scruff-a-Luvs Blossom Bunnies

Scruff-A-Luvs are a huge coveted item in our household right now, and if you have kids around the ages of my daughters (11 and 8) chances are you’ve already been told all about them! Scruff-A-Luvs are unloved and abandoned animals in need of some serious love and TLC.

When buying your Scruff-a-Luv, they arrive as a sad, matted ball of fur, but once you bathe them, dry them, brush them and love them, you’ll discover what kind of pet they really are and reveal their true beauty. In exchange they’ll be your FFF (Furry Friend Forever)….

I kind of love this idea. We know kids are natural caretakers and want to help whenever they can. They see the goodness in others and want to do good. This, parents, is a way to allow your child to adopt, love, care for and rescue a “pet” without having to bring home a new pet (OK, just me? I can’t be the only parent hopeful that this rescue will help aleviate the ask for a new dog/bunny/hamster/goldfish?)

Everleigh, my 8-year-old, received this lovely Scruff-A-Luvs themed gift-basket from Red Planet Group and could not wait to open it when she realized that not only was it a Scruff-A-Luv (a toy she had been asking for) but, in her words, an “exclusive and rare” Blossom Bunny was inside. Truly – the chocolates were enticing but she wanted that pet!

Isn’t our new Scruff-A-Luvs Blossom Bunny so sad looking to start? A little ball of fur, indeed! Now, with the help of the included brush for grooming, it was time to get to work. We added some baby shampoo to the kitchen sink with some warm water, and Everleigh got started.

The washing took no time at all. She wanted to ensure she was gentle and got soapy bubbles top to bottom on her new bunny. Soon, the ears unrolled and we could also see our bunny’s little pink nose.

Next, it was time to dry and brush her new bunny. I suggest a fluffy towel to dry and squeeze-dry the bunny for a bit, then a team effort with parent and child to dry with a blow dryer (warm, not hot) and brush. Everleigh dutifully brushed her new Scruff-A-Luvs Blossom Bunny while I moved from spot to spot with the warm air from the blow dryer.

The final result! Our Scruff-A-Luvs Blossom Bunny was bathed, dried and brushed with love and as each step happened, a happy little pet slowly emerged. Everleigh was also thrilled to find a flower crown for accessorizing her new pet and an adoption certificate in the box to make the new union official.

Is our Little Live Scruff-A-Luvs Blossom Bunny as fluffy and perfect as the pets you see in commercials like the one above? Nope But neither does the burger we buy from the fast-food drive through look like its commercial advertisement either. As a parent I understand this so it doesn’t phase me or my daughter at all. In the end we have an adorable adopted new pet, a happy little girl who cared for it and loved it to welcome it into our home, and a happy mom who watched it all happen.

You can learn more about Scruff-A-Luvs on the website itself and find them in stores like Toys R Us, Walmart, Canadian Tire and specialty retailers across Canada for a suggested retail price of $29.99.
