If you’ve read my musings at all in the past two years, and watched my Instagram feed, you’ll know that I’ve been on a lifestyle journey as it’s so often called (which is somewhat lame, I agree, and makes me feel like I’m on The Bachelorette, have you noticed how many times they use the words “journey” or “process”…anyway…) Whatever you call it, the move to better ones self and find ways to grow whether that be in fitness, weight loss, stress relief or in business, we all seem to have a need to do better.
My path, quite literally, started on a walking path with our labradoodle who was thrilled that she was finally getting out for more walks. I then used the Couch to 5K App to teach myself how to run, a little distance at a time, with a little more distance added each time. Next, I evaluated my eating habits and made some changes that, while minor all on their own, added up over time can make a big difference. I haven’t had a bagel + cream cheese – my standard breakfast for years – in about 3 years or so. Weird, right? I just decided not to eat them anymore. I also gave up full-sugar pop and only drink diet soda now (Diet Coke with a squeeze of lime and lots of ice, please!) I concentrate on veggies and protein but also don’t deprive myself of a delicious lasagna or flatbread and balsamic to dip.
So, when Breville presented me with a beautiful Juice Fountain Cold XL juicer to try, I knew this was something that I could easily add to my new lifestyle. Fruits and veggies are abundant in my fridge, and thankfully at farmers markets and in grocery stores on sale too. The biggest challenge was finding recipes; combinations of fruits and vegetables that would go well together without turning into something unappetizing. Thankfully, a quick visit to the Breville microsite colourmehealthy.breville.com/ yields a ton of information about Breville products and some wonderful recipes to help any new or veteran juicer tip back their glass. My Instagram stories detailed a 5 Day Planner that I embarked on, inspired by the 5 Day or 7 Day Planners available on the website.
The juice in the photo above is called Blues Beets and is a simple combination of beets, zucchini and blueberries! I’m a girl that grew up on Ukrainian Borscht so this was an easy sell for me.
This bountiful combination is what I used to make a full pitcher of Orange You Healthy – a sunshiny drink full of the goodness of oranges, peppers, celery, carrots and the zing of ginger.
Other drinks we tried included ingredients like rhubarb, apples, pears, strawberries, spinach and more. Using the Breville Juice Fountain Pro XL was super-easy too and thankfully, very easy to put together and take-apart. One question that I was asked a few times on my Instagram Stories was whether the appliance was easy to clean, and I can confidently say yes! It comes with a great cleaning brush to help as well. In our case, I was making a different juice each day for 5 days which resulted in a lot of cleaning but in a “normal” household, I think people would make a pitcher every few days, or spend an afternoon making several varieties and then cleaning everything up just once at the end of the day.
The Juice Fountain Cold XL features a big 3.5 inch feed chute and can extract 70 fl. oz. of nutrient rich juice up to 5x faster than a ‘cold press’ machine. Cold Spin Technology™ allows juice to flow up and through the stainless steel cutting disc surrounded by an Italian-made mesh filter to ensure an insignificant temperature increase. And that 3.5 inch chute means that you don’t have to cut up apples before tossing them in – they fit! The only prep you need to do is for things you want to peel (like beets) or slice to get rid of the seeds (like peppers) but truly, you can toss in a whole apple or pear or zucchini and let it get to work.
My final assessment? The Breville Juice Fountain Cold XL is a BOSS of a machine when it comes to extracting all the juice goodness from everything you put in it. It’s easy to learn how to use, easy to clean, and making healthy juices is inspiring when you’re working towards your health and fitness goals. It’s an investment for your health, to be sure, but the price point is reflective of the quality behind all Breville products. Like a gym membership or new yoga clothing, you’ve literally got to put your money where your mouth is and commit to using it. Once you do, you’re on your way to success!
