Slow Cooker Apple Cider

Slow Cooker Apple Cider

I love cider in the fall, and there are certainly many varieties to making it. If you have a house-full at Thanksgiving or throughout the holidays, making a huge batch in a slow cooker is perfect! This is a super easy recipe, and you look totally-together with the few ingredients you have floating around in the slow cooker. Add more juice as people take cups, there will be tons of mulled seasonings to mix in with the new juice.

Slow Cooker Apple Cider

Ingredients
  • 1 large orange
  • 1 red apple
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • whole cloves, for poking into fruit
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 gallon (3.78 liters) apple juice
  • 1 dash ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 dash nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
  1. Set slow cooker to high.
  2. Fill the slow cooker pot ¾ full with apple juice.
  3. Set aside remainder of apple juice for replenishing later.
  4. Wash the orange and apple and dry off.
  5. Poke cloves into the flesh of the orange and the apple, as many as you like. I found it easier to poke the cloves in at an angle.
  6. Set the cloves studded fruit into the crock pot.
  7. Add cinnamon sticks and 1 Tbsp brown sugar to taste.
  8. Using a vegetable peeler, cut off two long strips of lemon rind from the lemon and add to pot.
  9. Slice the remaining lemon into thin slices and drop 6 slices into the cider pot.
  10. Cook on high until boiling (which took my slow cooker 2 hours to achieve, it will vary), then switch to low and cook for another hour before serving. Your house will smell delicious too!
  11. Add dash of cinnamon and nutmeg to the pot if desired, mix, and begin serving
