Slow & Steady {and Healthy!}

Mean Green JuiceThe first few months of any year are filled with empowerment, determination and goals don’t you think? It’s a sharp contrast to the last few months of the year when we’re all about celebration and excess (I happen to really like those last few months of the year!) Still, there’s something to be said for taking ownership of your health, your waistline, and looking for ways to be more healthy (in my case, preferably without sweating much please and thank you.)

It’s a new year for the Hamilton Beach Social Kitchen (#HBSocialKitchen) crew, and this month I’ve been given the opportunity to check out one of the newest products from Hamilton Beach, the Slow Juicer. Priced at $199.99 this is the most expensive juicer available from Hamilton Beach (other models range from $49.99-$99.99), this is the mother-of-them-all so it’s appropriate that this mother try it out, non?

Getting a juicer is like getting a new toy, there’s so many parts and you’re so amped to try out everything that it can seem a bit overwhelming. Thankfully, due to the popularity of juicing and Pinterest, you can find a gazillion recipes online for various concoctions (Hamilton Beach even has a selection of recipes here). I was curious about the trying a Mean Green juice. Made internet-famous by Joe Cross’ Fat Sick & Nearly Dead film, this juice includes apples, cucumbers, celery, kale, ginger and lemon to create a powerhouse of goodness.

Mean Green Juice
Author:

Ingredients
  • 6 Kale Leaves
  • 1 cucumber
  • 4 Celery Stalks
  • 2 Green Apples-seeds removed
  • ½ Lemon-peeled
  • 1 Inch piece of Ginger
Instructions
  1. Process all ingredients in a juicer, serve over ice!

Using the Hamilton Beach Slow Juicer surprised me. My experience with juicers in the past was one word – loud. They work great but they’re one of the loudest kitchen appliances I know of. In contrast, the Hamilton Beach Slow Juicer is quiet! Slow Juicers operate via a masticating (chewing) or cold press method to produce a superior juice to their centrifugal counterparts. They’re also better for juicing leafy greens like kale (the most popular leaf on the block…er…garden, right now!)

This juicer gives you the ability to be extra-efficient in the kitchen, using the pulp from the fruits and veggies for things like soups, baking and more. I also liked the froth separator (the triangluar attachment on the side of the juice container in the photo above) making pouring juice a breeze.

Look for the Hamilton Beach Slow Juicer in stores now at a suggested retail price of $199.99!
