My Fabulous Life

5 Facts You Never Knew About Coffee

5 facts about coffeeLike many of you, I didn’t really drink coffee until I had kids.  Oh sure I went out for coffee with friends, oddly enough in the evenings, and more as a social thing.  It’s only after I had kids that I understood how coffee is the life-force for parents when there seems no other way to go on with our days!

I bet you didn’t know these coffee-facts.  The next time you’re standing in your favorite coffee-shop, you can rattle one of these off to the Barista and blow their mind with your knowledge.  Or – they may think you’ve had too much coffee today already.

1. Coffee Is Evil
Well, it once was anyway. Coffee wasn’t part of the Western world until the 1500’s. Before then, it was considered evil. This only stopped when Pope Clement VIII finally ended this line of thinking by taking a sip of coffee and then giving it his blessing. Amen!

2. Got time?
On average, people who purchase their coffee from drive-through windows before work will spend around forty-five hours every year waiting in line for their coffee. Perhaps I need to rethink my drive-through routine.

3. Aloha!
Hawaii is the only US state that grows coffee. The rest is grown in the “bean belt”, the area between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.

4. Cuppa Joe
The term “cup of Joe” comes from American Service Men (GI Joe’s) in WW2 being noted as big coffee drinkers!

5. The next time you think the local diner serves coffee that tastes like…well….
Did you know that the world’s most expensive coffee, up to $600 per pound, is made from coffee beans eaten and then excreted by a Sumatran wild cat. I wonder what it tastes like?

I love my coffee – good coffee that is – so I can appreciate brands like Van Houtte that have been in the industry since 1919 creating delicious blends. Love this “Spring” video from Van Houtte!
