Giving Back This Holiday Season

As a Fisher Price Mom, this past year has given me the opportunity to check out a collection of Fisher Price toys appropriate to my children’s ages (and stages!)

Fisher-Price

Our favorite item sent by Fisher Price this year is probably the Little People Disney Princess Songs Palace.  My girls (5 and 20 months) both play with it daily.  You can buy additional princesses to join in the fun, and the Princess Songs Palace actually recognizes who’s who when placed in special spots in the palace which I thought was really fun.

While every one of us counts our blessings throughout the year, it’s especially noticeable around the holidays when the season is all about giving and making sure we take care of those around us.  This year, Fisher Price gave us the opportunity to give to those around us, with their help!  Instead of receiving items for our own households to review, we were given the chance to pick one item to give to a charity close to our hearts and a second item to do whatever we wanted with (review within the household, give to someone else, etc.)

Fisher PriceThe item I picked to give to someone else in my life is the adorable Fisher Price My Little Snugabunny Bouncer.  First of all, the name is perfect (I call my kids Snugabugs all the time) and it looks like a perfect comfy cozy throne for a prince or princess!  This is going to a family friend having a baby this spring – I can’t wait to see her face when she receives this beautiful item!  A bouncer is a lifesaver for moms of infants and the more comfy the better, the more entertaining the better, because it means baby will stay in there that much longer!

Fisher Price Snugabunny Swing

The second item I picked – to go to charity – is the Fisher Price My Little Snugabunny Cradle N Swing!  The charity I picked is the Ronald McDonald House Saskatoon.

When I was part of the McDonald’s All-Access Moms program, one of the behind-the-scenes tours we went on was to the Ronald McDonald House in London, Ontario that was just recently renovated.  We learned a lot about the charity, the people behind it, and some of the families that have stayed at the house.  Here is the commercial that aired across Canada in earlier this year, sharing our visit.

RMHskThe visit really made an impact, and there was no question that my donation would go to this charity.  I contacted Marcelline Zimmer, Director of Family and Volunteer Services, to let her know my plan.  Ronald McDonald House Saskatoon just launched a huge expansion this fall, which will enable more Saskatchewan families to have a place to stay when their children are hospitalized.

Right now, they have to turn away 1 in 3 families that come to their door.  That’s a sad statement of fact, and when the expansion is complete in 2014 it’s going to be a bright sunny day in Saskatchewan with renewed hope for families in need!

So – for now – the My Little Snugabunny Cradle N Swing is going to stay in a box as Marcelline explained they don’t even have a family room area in the house due to the expansion and renovation going on right now.  When the newly renovated house opens in 2014 – the swing will be part of everything that’s brand new!  I’m so excited about this, and hope to take my family to the opening in 2014 to show them the good work that RMH charities, volunteers, and brands like Fisher Price can accomplish!

Disclosure: I am a Fisher-Price Mom and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog, as always, are my own.

  • It’s awesome that Fisher Price is doing this, and it’s great to hear that Ronald McDonald house is expanding in Saskatoon. Good news all around.

  • My son loved that swing when he was little. Great choice to give to the Ronald McDonald House! I actually didn’t know they had a house in Saskatchewan. Thanks for sharing the info – I’d love to chat with them as well to see if I can help in some way with the expansion. A friend used the Ronald McDonald House in Calgary when her son was born premature. They are such a supportive community!

    • Hi Cheryl! Marcelline said it’s easiest to reach her by email as they have 40 volunteers and she isn’t always around the office. They were thrilled with the donation so I’m sure they’d love to hear from you! Maybe we can team up!
