I love my deck. While my yard is a great size and has plenty of room for all kinds of activities, when the kids are looking for mom they’re not likely to find me in a garden tending to vegetables or happily grooming my flowers. No, I’m always found on the deck – sitting in the sun or relaxing in the shade with a coffee. My kids prefer to be in the yard when I’m out there with them so I’m glad I have my own fun spot too!
Last week while big brother was still in school, the girls have been having several picnics out on the deck with the help of our Fisher Price Laugh ‘n Learn Sweet Sounds Picnic. Everleigh, 14 months, thinks she is being a super helper bringing out her picnic basket while her older sister and I are the ones hauling out the water bottles and snacks. She loves sorting the shapes and listening to the sounds in response to her success. Me, I love that the girls are happily occupied (even if shoes and hats go missing as above…where is that left shoe??)
We have a swing set in the yard as well (going to be attaching a baby swing soon for Everleigh) as well as other great backyard toys like a sandbox, under-deck fort and more. We also (against my 8 years of resistance) just purchased a trampoline (with mesh sides) that will hopefully help avoid that “I’m booooooored” whine this summer. We spend most of the year inside the house, so when summer hits it’s time to really enjoy that other part of the house – the yard!
