BOBA (Baby On Board Apparel)

Baby On Board Apparel (BOBA) is a lifestyle maternity clothing company that combines function and fashion. Designer Ali McEwen strives to create items that boast comfort and versatility for mommies-to-be and answer the question “What should I wear today?”

Each garment has been designed to grow with an expanding belly, work with any existing wardrobe and serve as a staple wardrobe piece even after nine months.

Designer Ali McEwan is a Saskatchewan-gal, like me, who has since moved out East and created this line back in 2009.  Having our roots in common gave us a simple starting point, but in getting to know Ali, I like her even more.

Ali believes clothing should meet three mandates: it should always feel amazing when worn, be constructed from quality fabrics that will survive more than a few washes and be easily paired with anything.

Looking at the pieces available at BOBA, I was instantly attracted to the Lila Hoody.  You see, early in pregnancy I had to give up my staple Lululemon hoody because it simply would not zip up anymore, and I was kind of lost without that basic casual black hoody that goes with everything.  The Lila Hoody from BOBA is the answer for pregnant mamas!

This picture was taken at 35 weeks, and I still have plenty of room to spare in the belly part of this hoody – I can easily zip it up (which is more than I can say for my non-maternity winter jacket that I just wrecked the zipper on last night, whoops) and it’s versatile enough that I can dress it up with jeans and some jewelry or wear it out with my yoga pants and a t-shirt on days like today.  A note on sizing, I originally picked the size medium (8-10) but found it too snug so I went up to the large (12-14) so I would say that the Lila Hoody fits small.  After a wash, however, it still fits well so shrinking is minimal.

The Lila Hoody is available at BOBA for $86.  Shipping within Canada is $7 and you can pay via Paypal which I love!

Check out BOBA for a fresh look at maternity clothes for pregnancy and beyond (you know, that period after baby where your regular clothes hate you but you hate your maternity clothes back).  The staple items look like your regular clothes, so its’ a happy medium.
