Why Rent Someone Else’s Dirt?

In gathering my info and photos for this post, I came across this one above and decided yep – that’s what it’s about for this mom (and slight germophobe.) Carpet Cleaners are an essential item for busy households like mine, maybe not a once-a-week thing but if you have carpet anywhere in your household, you know that keeping it clean is important and something that should be done regularly – not just when you move out or into a household. No, it needs to be done after the flu bug hits the house, after the dog teaches you that bacon isn’t something you should ever give her (true story, it was horrendous) and after a busy summer with a teenage son and his friends in the basement playing XBox and eating all the things!

The thing is, when you think about it, if you decide to rent a carpet cleaner – the person before you also cleaned all those things (and who knows what else) out of their carpet too. Sure, the machine should generally be clean but what about the brushes, the wheels, the hose, and the little bits of whatever that might still be there. Nope, no thank you. The last time I rented a carpet cleaner was before we had kids. After that, I couldn’t stomach that idea. And if you haven’t thought about that until now, you’re welcome. Buying is the way to go! An investment up front, to be sure, but in the long run it will pay off.

Everything about the Hoover SmartWash+ Automatic Carpet Cleaner is built for function and efficiency. It’s easy to use out of the box, and fascinating to look at how grubby your carpet has become!

It comes with a handy manual, of course, but there’s really nothing to it when getting all set up to go. Here’s a description of the carpet cleaner from Hoover:

The Hoover® SmartWash™+ Automatic Carpet Cleaner eliminates the guesswork with Automatic Cleaning Technology that makes carpet cleaning as easy as vacuuming. Simply push forward to clean, pull back to dry. No multiple buttons. No solution measuring. No hassle. Just seriously simple & seriously powerful. Remove deep down embedded dirt with FlexForce™ PowerBrushes. Plus, Auto Mix precisely mixes and dispenses the correct amount of solution for optimal cleaning while Auto Dry powerfully extracts water with HeatForce™ for an even faster drying time.

We used this carpet cleaner first on our basement carpet. We finished our basement in 2015 and had not cleaned the carpet since it was installed. Used mainly by my teenage son and his friends, I knew the carpet could use a cleaning but was surprised by how dirty it really is – look at that water! I comfort myself saying that the majority of that is just the accumulation of dust embedded in the carpet and not the dirt and grime and who knows what else brought into the house by teenage boys. Whatever the case, the carpet is now clean and I’m happy!

AND – it dried quickly helping me alleviate any thought of what could grow in wet carpet that takes forever to dry. The Dry feature is a real plus, giving you a head start on finishing the job quickly. The carpet wasn’t absolutely dry when we were done, but it was damp at best. We left a fan on in the basement overnight and it was perfectly dry by morning.

This too is a game changer. You can actually release the nozzle and clean the brushes after you use your machine, or on an as needed basis. That means that even all the gross stuff your own household has in the carpet won’t be left anywhere on the brushes the next time you use it, either. Beyond not bringing another family’s grossness into your own house, I don’t want my own family’s grossness left there either! Next up, the second story and stairway after Thanksgiving weekend company!
