A New City, A New House, A New Play House!

By Lisa Dutton

Last fall our family of four moved. If you have ever moved, I don’t have to tell you the process of packing is insanity. And with the packing, comes the purging. There was no area that underwent a bigger purge than our basement full of TOYS. Toys, upon toys, upon toys. There were a few items the kids outgrew that they were emotional parting with. But for the most part, they didn’t much care. With the kids help, my husband and I purged about half of their toy collection. Off to the new house! We have been here for about 9 months now, and with our first spring came our first community garage sale.

Again, we found ourselves in the basement sorting through the toys. Toys we moved that the kids didn’t even have enough interest in to unpack. It was in that moment we got REAL. My husband posed the questions: “What do our boys actually play with? What has stood the test of time?” It came down to about a half dozen things. Most, big ticket items including our trampoline, and yes a gaming system. But it also included a toy kitchen, groceries/cart, and a playhouse. Sadly, the playhouse never even made it to the backyard of our new home. I had purchased it second hand and it was looking pretty weathered.

Our little guy needed some new real-estate! We were sent a Little Tikes Build-a-House to review, and it was the perfect option for our 4 year old. It is more than just a standard playhouse. Your kids can actually make it their own! What’s unique about this playhouse is it comes with interchangeable panels and easy to use tools. Parents build the frame and roof, and kids are then free to customize the look of the house as often as they want! Take apart, rebuild – my son’s dream come true!

Little Tikes Build-a-House includes over 25 customizable panels, a kid friendly drill, and screwdriver! It is bright, colourful, and welcoming. The playhouse is perfect for one to three kids at a time and encourages physical, social and imaginative play. Tonight my son packed a suitcase in his room and dragged it out to the house (I think he’s moving out)! He hung out in there all evening, his own little world. He loves opening and closing the shutters, and I love all the natural light they let in. The house is labeled for kids 1-5 years old, and is truly something your family can enjoy for years to come.

Currently, we have out Little Tikes Build-a-House set up in the backyard, but with Winnipeg’s harsh winters and wind, it will be shifted to the playroom come fall. Depending on climate, the house is ideal for a backyard, basement or playroom. (47″ X 51″…. 47″ tall) It is straight forward to set up. The instructions are brief and easy to follow.

Look for the Little Tikes Build-a-House at retailers like Toys R Us ($279.99), and Walmart ($248).

Little Tikes graciously provided our family with this playhouse in exchange for our honest opinion. Thanks Little Tikes!

  • These are so awesome, I know my grandchildren would love building their own home, time to save for Christmas!!

  • These houses look like a little kids dream and I wish they were around when I was a kid because the only thing I had was a homemade fort made out of blankets. lol

  • I could see this being a huge hit with any lil one 🙂 It looks like the perfect place for new adventures!

  • Brings back great memories, I remember having hours of fun as a child myself once (too long ago..) with a friend who had a playhouse in her yard!

  • I really like the colors on this playhouse. I had a wooden one my father made me when I was little and I loved it.

  • This is such a wonderful idea! A playhouse that my kids can take apart and build again really is a dream come true for them! I love the simple design so they can customize it and use their imaginations on the inside and outside.
