Back To Routine and Back To YOU

Although September is known as back-to- school season for some, it’s certainly a return to routine for all of us. Summer allows us time to relax a little more, indulge a little more, and hopefully sleep a little more if you’re lucky! September’s routine is always welcome in our household (I thrive on it!) but it does take some adjusting and getting used to, especially if the “little more” aspect of summer somehow turned into “whoops, a lot more,” and you need to reign things in. It can be daunting knowing where to start, and without clear focus you’re more likely to slide back into your summer-ways.

I generally keep track of my health and exercise all year round (this month I’m be celebrating a full year of logging in daily on My Fitness Pal, which I recommend to friends often) but I’m definitely not as strict and focused during the summer months. With September here, I’m making a commitment to ensure I put my health and fitness first! With three kids in school all day now (First. Time. Ever.) I am so excited for what that means for me and my time working from home. I’m committed to going to the gym three days per week which is a good thing since I took the entire summer off and didn’t visit (whoops!)

I’m also going to get out on our bikes more starting this month. The summer months are too hot for outdoor activity after noon or so, but the fall months are perfect for long bike rides, and other activities outdoors.

Another area with more focus this fall is our eating habits. Summer allows for many quick-and- easy meals, with a little give in terms of nutritional value (a side of potato chips with your hot dog? Why not?) Now, school lunches and healthy dinners take focus, ensuring that we all have healthy options to give us not only the energy for school and activities, but to also build our immune systems to hopefully help keep those nasty back-to- school bugs away! It’s also important to me to ensure my family has their vitamin and supplements daily for this reason. My kids take a daily multivitamin and probiotic, but what about mom and dad? I know, as in most things, we put ourselves last but this is one area that we should ensure we’re covered, parents, and here’s your gentle nudge to start this fall if you haven’t already.

With the number of options and amount of information available, trying to select the right vitamins and supplements for a healthier lifestyle can be overwhelming. Jamieson Essentials makes it easy by identifying the four products that best meet
the health needs of Canadians.

With nearly 100 years of experience, Jamieson’s team of experts have done the work for you and identified Multivitamin, Omega-3, Probiotics and Vitamin D as the four products Canadians should take every day as a foundation for healthier living. These four Essentials provide a perfect foundation to baseline health, targeting your digestive, heart, bone and whole body health. I like this!

A quick rundown of the 4 Essentials products:

Jamieson 100% Complete Multivitamins for Adults
60% of Canadians aren’t getting all the essential nutrients they need from their diet alone. To help close the gap, Jamieson 100% Complete Multivitamin for Adults is an easy way for individuals to meet their daily vitamin needs, as recommended by Health Canada. If you’re looking for a great way to get your body back on track, this is it!

Jamieson Extra Strength Omega-3
40% of Canadians aren’t getting enough omega-3s from diet alone and that’s definitely me (I don’t eat any seafood, zero, none), which puts them at an increased risk of heart disease. New Extra Strength Omega-3 delivers an extra boost of omega-3 fats to support cardiovascular health (and they say with no fishy aftertaste either which is important to me.)

Jamieson Probiotic 10 Billion
Probiotics play an important role in overall digestive and immune health, as they help to reduce symptoms such as bloating, and aid in proper digestion and regularity. Jamieson Probiotic 10 Billion is a one-a- day way to promote optimal digestive balance. Every family member in our household takes probiotics in one form or another now.

Jamieson Vitamin D
A fat-soluble nutrient, vitamin D plays a key role in the maintenance of good health and helps support a healthy immune system. It also helps the body absorb calcium to build strong bones and teeth. Taking Jamieson Vitamin D 1,000 IU is an easy
way to get your daily dose.

  • Love the idea of biking with the kids – a great way to incorporate exercise without having to spend time apart.

  • I actually like it when the weather turns in August. Cooler nights mean fall colours and new school supplies are coming! Yay!

  • Good ideas here! I will also have all three at school this year! Big changes ahead. 🙂 I hope to take advantage of this and do some self care 🙂

  • Vitamins are definitely very important! I make sure to take a daily vitamin. I cannot wait for my oldest daughter to go back to school…just because i know how much she loves it. She is going into SK so for now, she loves it and I appreciate it 🙂

  • While many people use the new year as inspiration to change things I like you prefer September as the new start. It’s the perfect time to get organized and motivated!

  • Fall is when i get back to things also. Like running …. I love ro run on crisp Fall mornings.
    Good info on vitamins.

  • I don’t often have the chance to eat as well as I would like, so I have been trying to stick to a regular vitamin routine lately and I have actually found that it has been helping!

  • I love the summer month but I like September so I could do my aquafit at my favourite pool with my favourite instructor. They don’t run a summer program and have to go to the other pool.

  • Every summer we fail at keeping a regular schedule and come September it is so hard getting back into one!!

  • I have no kids in school but I do remember trying to get back into the routine. I do take my vitamins daily as I find as with age you need them

  • We try not to get out of our general routine even though days are for outdoors, choice of activity as long as it is non electronic play instead of school. I am one of those that would advocate for shorter stints off school throughout the year rather than a summer break.

  • Oh I love your bike! I always find I fall of my fitness routine once school starts. I need to make it more of a priority this year!

  • It’s so true that you get to refocus on you when the kids go back to school. It’s so nice to get time for yourself and relax for a few minutes.

  • My daughter isnt in school yet but soon she will be. I take her biking, well her biking and me jogging lol

  • Jamieson Vitamins are a staple in this house. We definitely get back into a routine with taking them in the fall with the cold & flu season gearing up. It is always nice getting back into a routine come the fall after the summer of having fun.

  • Family bike rides are super fun! Especially when it ends with an ice cream treat because it’s so hot outside 😉

  • We are trying to scale back bedtimes so that we can get up earlier for my daughter’s transition from a half day for kindergarten to a full day in grade one. Next year I plan on buying a bike so we can start biking back and forth when possible.

  • Its all true lol , we do tend to let a lil more slide in the summer break months . My family takes Jamieson multi vitamins daily and since we started doing that I find there has been way less illnesses ! YAY thats a win !

  • I’m going to have more time to myself this September so my goal is very similar except I’m starting my journey. Can’t wait to go through this, you inspired me to get going

  • I cant wait to get back to a regular routine.. My kids have been staying up late lots so will be tough to get back to a regular bedtime! haha

  • I find it so hard to log my food consistently – I’m not the cook in the house so it seems like so much more work!

  • My son loves taking his vitamins – they are so fun and a great way to give that little reassurance that he’s getting what he needs 🙂

  • I find summer an easy time to fall out of good habits and routines – it’s definitely a good time to start back up in the fall when routines get back into place

  • I don’t have any school-aged children (unless you count my daughter in college) so our routine doesn’t change very much. Only for the 1 or 2 weeks of vacation we take in the summer. But I do have to start taking better care of my health.

  • I love hiking and biking in the summer but once school is back in, taking care of me doesn’t seem to be at the top of the list.
    and it should be.

  • Definitely easier to meal plan and eat healthier during the school year for us. Summer is all about BBQs, ice cream treats and beers/wine on the patio! I do take a multivitamin all year but haven’t really looked into the others, thanks for the post!

  • I look forward to the fall, especially with cooler temps. Much more enjoyable to get back into the exercise routine!

  • Everything seems to get forgotten about in the summer. It’s nice to get back into the routines, including bringing the focus back to taking care of purselves.
