Come Together: Mega Construx Build Beyond

In our ever-changing political landscape and day-to-day family life, one thing is certain. As parents we’re not only raising little humans who will grow into big humans one day; we’re raising future humanitarians. Now more than ever, our children are learning what it means to be a good citizen and how their actions impact those around them and sometimes, the earth as a whole. It’s a mighty task us parents have, but it’s also a mighty weight our children have knowing that this world we’re handing them is theirs to embrace going forward.

I love when brands and organizations come together to share their vision with their consumers, and in this case their very young consumers. Mega Construx, part of the Mattel brand portfolio, partnered with YTV Corus Entertainment to call on children across Canada to submit their stories about how they’ve helped bring their community together and made people feel welcome and accepted – in other words Build Beyond. By submitting their stories, kids were entered to win one of 10 trips to Ottawa to help build a Mega Construx monument, inspired by their stories.

The large-scale monument, constructed out of over a million of Mega Construx bricks, will be revealed at the Ottawa Children’s Festival on May 10. Local Canadian architect Jean Beaudoin and several Master Builders will be at the helm of a team of 10 children, called “Beyonders” to bring their vision of unity and acceptance to life. The design of the installation is interactive in nature, enabling those who participate to live out the brand’s motto to Build Beyond.

So, why Mega Construx and why this project? Mega Construx believes that a brick isn’t just a brick…it’s a gateway beyond. Each brick represents an opportunity to not only build a new toy but a better community. It is through play that we seek to inspire children to build a better world. There are many different people in the toy box of life, but in the right hands, these bricks show us what’s possible when we all fit together!

It makes perfect sense, then, that Mega Construx bricks are compatible with other toy bricks, making it easy to discover new possibilities and build your own world. It truly is about the power of working together!

I discovered the Mega Construx power of working together when we received some product of our own to build with. Determined to do it on her own, my 9-year-old daughter soon discovered that she wasn’t as skilled as she thought she was and ran into some confusion early-on building a Minion Ice Cream Truck. Her 12-year-old brother stepped in, showed her the first few steps, and then gave it back to her to complete. She was as proud as could be with her accomplishment, which wasn’t possible without help from her big brother. I didn’t plan for this to happen, though it certainly makes for a great blog story the way that it did.
