Life in Beeps

I love the digital era we’re in, how social media is used to engage an audience but also work hand in hand with advertising to tell a story. Think about some of the most viral videos an ads online – they get shared and are watched by millions because they resonate with people. When I see a video like that online, I want to share it too and open up the discussion. I love when a video makes me think.

Watch the video above, and then tell me it didn’t give you pause to think about those moments in your life defined by sounds. Often, people say that certain scents evoke strong memories and take them back to a specific place in time, but I’ve never given a lot of thought to how audio cues do that as well.

Sounds that take me back:

~ A Baby’s Heartbeat on an Ultrasound Machine – perhaps one of the most beautiful sounds in my life, there was a time when the machine didn’t show one which while devastating made me love and cherish that sound so much more with my three healthy babies.

~ The Chime of an Old Cuckoo Clock – my grandmother had one in her house, and hearing one now – 17 years after she has passed away, reminds me of her every time.

And yes, watching this video from INTERAC Flash, it resonates. All those background sounds, all those moments, play into the soundtrack of our lives. Life moves so fast (my youngest is just completing Kindergarten this spring when I feel like I just heard that beautiful heartbeat on the ultrasound) and when people say it goes by in a flash, it’s true! Life is busy, and anything that helps me get through the day to day chaos so I can spend less time in the daily struggles and more time with snuggles (bumper sticker coming soon, that was good right?) helps. INTERAC flash makes my days easier and because of that I’m a big fan (I am that mom in conversation in the grocery check-out marveling at its ease, hi!)

  • For me so many songs take me back…. teenage years, childhood songs at camp or at school, the comfort brought by songs sung at church throughout the years 🙂

  • omg A Baby’s Heartbeat on an Ultrasound Machine!! yes <3 I miss that sound so much. I also love songs from years ago that remind me of growing up and my girls laugh

  • When I hear music from the 70’s and 80’s, I get flashbacks to what I was doing and who I was doing it with.

  • Songs take me back. Usually they remind me of high school when they were simpler times even though at the time they didn’t feel like it…

  • I remember songs I sang when I attended camp in my younger days. We sang them around the campfire. The sound of the ferry bell brings me back to when I was younger crossing the waters in PEI

  • Tracy Chapman takes me back to my childhood! I listened to it with my dad as we drove the cottage roads 🙂

  • Definitely music takes me back, certain songs always remind me of different stages/special events in my life.

  • Music was a huge influence in my life. Certain songs remind me of old romances or parties or dances I went to. Awesome memories.

  • The sound of the ocean takes me back to my youth. I lived in Nova Scotia back then and liked nothing more than just sitting listening to the ocean waves.

  • I recently lost my parents within a month of each other this year… there is this bird that does a certain whistle or song..reminds of my childhood when my mom would whistle for us to come in! I have heard the bird a few times this spring already!

  • I guess April Wine songs would do it for me LOL…I can’t think of anything else though. I was a book reader when young, didn’t watch much tv, our tv’s been unplugged from the wall for well over 8 months now…

  • Music definitely brings back memories of good times even of bad times. I hear certain songs and immediately transported back in time!!

  • It’s definitely waves and water. I grew up on a lake, and any time I’m alone with that sound I’m instantly in the past.

  • This is so sweet! What takes me back is the sound of a coffee machine percolating – makes me think of my mom, when we were growing up, she would make herself a coffee while reading to us or feeding us breakfast. <3

  • My mother had a cuckoo clock, and that sound does take me back to my childhood, and hearing the bird chirp every fifteen minutes.

  • Certain songs brings me back to special moments.. Nature sounds bring me back to great memories of camping with my family as a child

  • The sound of the train coming down the tracks. Growing up in a small Alberta town, my childhood home was 150 steps away from the train tracks, and when I visit my parents I love sitting on the porch and hearing the sound of the click clacking of the train as it goes on by. Takes me back.
