Easy Homemade Salad Dressing

homemade italian dressing

I love salad in a restaurant. Why is it that having a restaurant salad is so much better than making one at home? I mean, it’s just lettuce and dressing. I usually ask for the “house” dressing because it’s likely to be some yummy mixture that’s the restaurant’s signature. Buying a grocery-store dressing doesn’t seem to have the same result.

My new favorite quick-serve restaurant is The Chopped Leaf. Have you visited one yet? We have 2 in our city and of course neither is anywhere near me, but I visit weekly. At home, I’m eating more salad but definitely not with a store-bought dressing. Here’s a ridiculously easy recipe for homemade Italian dressing that has a delicious zing of garlic! You can, of course, adjust the sugar and oil to suit your daily diet needs, I’ve already reduced the amount of oil the original recipe called for to make it my own.

Easy Homemade Salad Dressing

Ingredients
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste (about ⅛ tsp but I don't measure)
Instructions
  1. Whisk all ingredients in a bowl and pour over your favorite salad! If you love garlic you can adjust accordingly (I use a large garlic clove which can equal 2 small ones sometimes).
