It’s Back to School Shopping Time #ThinkStaples

I know, it’s as though as soon as the calendar flips to August we suddenly get bombarded with back to school ads and the to-do list that starts to grow. While we still have a beautiful month of summer vacation to enjoy, it pays to be prepared. This year, I headed out shopping for back to school items earlier than ever – and I’m pretty happy to say I am D. O. N. E.

Staples back to school shopping tips

Armed with my list (which, if you forget, Staples has printed in store waiting for you, hooray!) I set out one day last week – alone – to do my back to school supplies shopping. Some experts (?) advise taking your kids with you so they can have a say in the colour of duotangs you pick. I say that this choice is entirely dependent on your own family and the amount of wine you may need at the end of that day.

This is how you shop with a 12 year old boy. You send texts with "this or that" questions. It's a beautiful thing!
This is how you shop with a 12 year old boy. You send texts with “this or that” questions. It’s a beautiful thing!

The thing is, kids are generally good about giving you some ideas on their favorite colours and trends and – at least in my experience – the younger they are, the less they’re concerned about the color of their binder. Since my son was at home with his phone at his side, we texted each other back and forth when I needed some direction.

  • We are about three quarters of the way through our back to school shopping, for the school supplies list. I am holding off on buying any shoes until the last week before school – the girls need them, but have had last minute growth spurts in the past, so we wait. And I don’t think they need any new clothes.

  • I love back to school shopping… now that it’s for my own classroom, I get even more excited! My favourite things are smelly markers and post-its in fun shapes.

  • I loved shopping for back to school as a child…choosing the colour of my binders etc. As an adult I am not so fond of it. Two of my children attend a school which holds Staples group buy (which I love). The eldest requires in store shopping which can be stressful. I have started the clothes shopping and did the group buy…off to Staples later this month for the rest.

  • I love going back to school shopping. I’ve got some supplies for my older grandkids already but their mom’s are going shopping with them closer to the end of August.

  • It’s been such an awesome summer, and I’m only just starting to think about school stuff! Guess I should get on that, but I’m holding out because I don’t want to think about summer ending. This would sure help in the budget area! 🙂

  • I was always the one excited to be going back. Going to pick out my new backpack and trapper keeper binder were big things back in the day

  • I used to love back to school shopping as a child. With 5 of us to buy for my mom was probably not as enthusiastic about it. She did have us go through flyers with our lists that the school gave us to find the best prices. My favourite thing to buy each year was a new pack of 24 pencil crayons. I did a lot of colouring on school projects so they got pretty small by the end of the year except for the white crayon. We had a large collection of these in our home crayon box where all the old crayons went at the end of the year.

  • We are in the midst of BTS shopping. The clothes & shoes are done, the supplies are started but no where near done yet. I just pick things up as I see them on sale right now. We’ll get serious in the next week or two though

  • Back to school shopping means the end of summer? So I leave it to the very last minute then I’m scrambling to find everything my daughter needs

  • Not much to do. My youngest is going into grade 6 and I just have to pay the school $40 for supplies. And my older daughter is going into grade 10 and really just needs a binder, pens, and pencils to start. We’ll be going clothes shopping and other necessities at the end of the month.

  • I remember back to school shopping, we always were the last minute ones too, and it would be sooo crowded in the stores! Fun times lol

  • I loved back to school shopping so much (as a kid) that now, as an adult with a small business, I buy new pens and the like for my business every August. 🙂

  • I haven’t started back to school shopping yet! ?
My kids and I don’t mind it though. There’s so many neat things on the market now!

  • Staples is my normal “go-to” place for back to school shopping. Love how it arrives to my door in a couple of days. Last year, I tried Walmart. NEVER AGAIN! I am still waiting for my order from August 13, 2015. I was refunded in October.

  • I used to love shopping for school supplies as a kid. New crayons, pencils, and duotangs. I still get a charge out of it today, and use the excuse that I’m buying for my nieces, but end up with plenty of cute supplies for myself.

  • I loved going shopping when my girls were little. watching them look over all the book bags and lunch boxes deciding which ones they wanted. so cute.

  • I have not even thought about it yet. My son is going into high school and I am a total newbie at that one. My daughter is going into grade 7, so she’s still pretty easy to shop for. I’ll be hitting staples the last week of August for sure.

  • Right now I’m helping my niece with back to school shopping but I remember as a kid the only good thing about going back to school was the shopping.
