The Goonies – Now on Netflix! #StreamTeam

Our household is a flury of activity and a strict bedtime has gone out the window this summer. We’ve been having late-night barbecues with friends, lots of doll play in the backyard (never underestimate the value of a $20 Barbie pool, we’ve had hours of entertainment in the yard with the doll’s pool parties!) and of course, summer travel.

There are, however, some great opportunities for down time. I know moms can appreciate how perfect it can be to draw the curtains on a hot summer day, turn up the AC or fans, and declare a movie afternoon. Sweaty, tired, kids slow down, snuggle in, and lose themselves in a great summer movie.

The Goonies on NetflixI was so so (SO!) excited to learn that on July 1st, Netflix Canada is now streaming The Goonies! This is one of my childhood favorites and I can’t wait to share it with my own kids. I’m sure my eleven-year-old in particular will get a kick out of it and I hope they’re left with as much of a sense of adventure, mystery, and laughs as I did in the 80’s.

how to train your dragon netflixOther great movies and series now available on Netflix include Dragons: Race to the Edge which is an all-new Netflix original based on the hugely popular How To Train Your Dragon story. Soaring beyond their home on the island of Berk in search of new dragons, Dragons: Race to the Edge introduces some of the most exciting dragons yet, each with its own amazing abilities — shock waves, cannon balls and fire blasts, just to name a few.

With the magical Dragon Eye, an artifact Hiccup finds aboard an abandoned ship, Hiccup learns there is
more outside the confines of Berk, and that a little curiosity and determination can make every day an exciting journey. In Hiccup’s own words, “this changes everything.”

Treasure Island

Disney fans will love National Treasure Book of Secrets on Netflix this summer as well! In order to find the The Lost City of Gold, Ben Gates and his team must weave their way to the final clue in a mysterious and highly guarded book containing centuries of secrets. But there’s only one way to find it – Ben Gates must kidnap the President.  This movie is rated PG so it’s family friendly, though younger kids may need to hide their eyes a few times. After seeing the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at WDW Hollywood Studios earlier this summer, my kids have been eager to check out this – albeit not Indiana Jones – epic movie next.

I hope you’re enjoying your summer adventures so far! We’ve got a busy few weeks ahead, but guaranteed I’ll be taking advantage of those afternoons – blinds closed, air conditioning on, enjoying an epic adventure on Netflix with the family. I hope you get some downtime too!
