Let’s Talk Baby with Walmart Canada

There are days when the thought that I’ve been a mother for over ten years now hits me so ridiculously out of the blue that it nearly knocks the coffee cup out of my hand.  It feels like just yesterday that we left the hospital with our first born, completely overwhelmed but excited about our new adventure as parents.  Thankfully, I had nine months to obsess over what the best items for baby were and a lovely baby shower to help stock our nursery with them.  Still, there were certain items that I still wasn’t sure on, even after my informal survey of friends and family. Because it had been over a decade since my sisters had babies of their own, they had no advice on which baby bottles and formula were best, which pacifiers were the must-have ones, and which baby bath lotion was the magic-one to make baby sleep.

Seeing what’s new from Walmart makes me wish I had these resources available to me as a new mom! Instead of driving my friends and family crazy with my endless pondering, I could have utilized the latest initiative from Walmart.

Along with the launch of the new Walmart Baby Registry, Walmart Canada has introduced “Let’s Talk Baby”, an in-store initiative to help new parents navigate the overwhelming world of baby items and find the best products for their specific needs.

“Expecting a new bundle of joy is an exciting time but it can also bring a variety of questions,” said Meghan McConchie, directory of category marketing, baby at Walmart Canada. “We want to help Canadians plan accordingly and with the help of our in-store specialists we’re offering a better shopping experience for parents and parents-to-be.”

On Tuesdays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at select stores, shoppers can look for in-store specialists at the “Let’s Talk Baby” kiosk (for the first three weeks, specialists will also be available on Thursdays to help out as well!) Specialists will be equipped with tablets for easy access to the baby registry and Walmart.ca, enabling customers to access the registries of friends and family and of course the huge product selection available at all Walmart stores.

I love the amount of resources available to new (and second time, and third time and…) parents, giving us all access to the best advice, selection and availability more than ever before.  Still, if I could go back ten years and talk to my new mommy self, I likely wouldn’t tell her to stop obsessing over the research of best-baby-everything, but instead I’d tell her to reach out more, ask for help more, and find resources like this one had it existed then. All moms eventually learn that we can’t do it all, we have to and should ask for help, and take help when it’s offered.  In this case, Walmart is right there for new parents holding out a helping hand. Parents should happily take it!
