My Fabulous Life

Starting The Day Off Right

nivea and breakfast club of canadaMornings are hectic in our house.  And, true to form, Monday mornings are definitely the most hectic.  Why is that, exactly?  We all know Mondays are coming, we know that each morning is going to require lunches to be made, clothing to be picked out, and hair and teeth to be brushed.  Yet, our mornings always feel a little rushed and a little chaotic.

Still, mornings set the tone for the day so it’s important not to let that tone be one of a rushed, hectic family and instead be one of focus, touching base, and getting out the door in a positive frame of mind.  A pretty tall order, especially for a Monday morning, but essential don’t you think?

A healthy breakfast is essential for children going to school every morning.  They need food in their stomachs so they can focus and learn and grow.  But did you know that one in 7 children (close to 100,000) children in Canada live in poverty and are at risk of starting their day on an empty stomach?  It’s true.

Global skin care brand NIVEA believes that a better future comes with a better start to each day and with that thought in mind they’ve partnered with Breakfast Club of Canada by donating $25,000 to the organization in 2013.

“Research tells us that breakfast is crucial for academic concentration, improved social skills and self-esteem and enhanced relationships with families and friends and yet in Canada, one in seven school-aged children are at risk of going to school on an empty stomach,” says Larry LaPorta, General Manager, Beiersdorf Canada. “Both globally and in Canada, NIVEA is committed to supporting families and empowering children, which is why we are dedicated to ensuring that purchases of NIVEA products will help contribute to a brighter future for children across the country, starting with a proper breakfast to fuel quality education.”

“Every morning, close to 130,000 young school children benefit from having breakfast in a nourishing environment as a result of the Breakfast Club of Canada programs,” says Daniel Germain, President-Founder. “We are thankful of our partnership with NIVEA as we’ll be able to help support more children and schools and ensure Canadian children in need are getting the nourishment required to learn and grow.”

Globally, NIVEA supports family projects which are chosen and developed on a local level with local partners, with the target of always delivering a sustainable and tangible impact. In Canada, NIVEA is empowering children in need by helping to provide them with the fuel that is vital for a proper education. Through its partnership with Breakfast Club of Canada, NIVEA is actively contributing to one of Beiersdorf’s global sustainability commitments – reaching and improving the lives of one million families by 2020.

NIVEA’s donation will contribute towards helping to feed 130,000 Canadian children! I think that’s outstanding and definitely something we as parents need to take note of. I’m thankful to brands like this and organizations like the Breakfast Club of Canada for bringing breakfast to children and helping them start their day on a positive note.

  • Breakfast. Is so important for everyone. If I have time for nothing else.I have to have a good breakfast. My church. runs a breakfast club for the children in the neighborhood. The school has seen happier and more willing students. Since beginning the program. your brain needs nourishment to start your day and keep you going.

  • Breakfast is so important for kids brains to function properly. Glad to hear of a company who is doing a little to help.

  • I see it at my daughters school, kids coming to school hungry or eating cookies for breakfast. Teaching kids what a good breakfast is as simple as cereal and milk is a benefit to all. This is a great initiative just needs to be taken further by offering schools a way to help teach kids what is a breakfast

  • I don’t have kids in school now but do have grandchildren and I know that they have a Breakfast club for those kids who don’t get breakfast at home for whatever reason. I think its great. I think when kids have a good breakfast it helps them get on with their day and they are more interested in getting down to work.

  • Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for all ages, I love the breakfast programs in school as a lot of kids are too ashamed to admit they have not had a meal so when they see others like them they feel more secure to share things that they might not.

  • For kids and for active adults, a nutritious and carbohydrate rich breakfast is an absolute necessity to be able to function at peak performance levels

  • I think breakfast is the most important meal of the day for anyone, but more importantly, for children. I think it’s great for programs to help kids that might not otherwise get it or to ensure they are getting the proper breakfast!

  • Very happy to hear a company like Nivea is participating in such a program. I love their products and now have even more so of a reason to continue.

  • Breakfast is the start of the day and gets your “thinking cap” in order. Exercise and informational learning work better when brains are fueled. It gives them something to work with and on.
