A few posts in the past few weeks have really made me look back and reflect upon my first few months as a mom. When Elijah was born it certainly opened up a whole new world to us. Feeding, sleeping, and baby care in general were all new frontiers for us. Before he was born, I washed the few baby clothes I had (we didn’t find out the gender and so we had some adorable green and yellow sleepers!) and thankfully I used a sensitive laundry detergent. It turns out that my little guy had sensitive skin and suffered from eczema for the first three years of his life.
And so, we learned to adjust and used only perfume free laundry detergents and fabric softener for his clothes. As his eczema improved, we adjusted as well. I started using scented detergent but stuck to unscented fabric softener. Years later, his skin is great and we can use all-scented products if we choose to. The thing is, I still use unscented fabric softener and dryer sheets often – especially when I’m using a product like Downy Unstoppables, for example. I want that scent to carry-through and not get masked or mixed up with the fabric softener scent! Laundry strategy!
Here’s a sensitive skin laundry strategy from some of my favorite brands:

Four of the six people in our family need scent free/dye free products. I didn’t know there was ‘free’ downy and would love to try it.

I’ve had scent allergies and allergies to certain cleaning ingredients my whole life and subsequently have to be very careful with what I use. Because of that I’ve never been able to justify trying new products for fear I’ll have a reaction and will have wasted all that money on something I can’t use a second time, let alone coming close to finishing it!
