2013 is a brand new year, full of new possibilities and big potential. What are you doing to save some money this year? For many of my friends, becoming a consultant for one of the many home-based businesses out there has been life-changing. I’m not talking about an extra $20 a month either. I have several friends who are very very successful in the home-party-business market, and for each of them it comes down to a combination of a product they love and their social and sales skills.

Yes, you can buy similar products (plastic bowls for example) in retail stores but they’re not Tupperware quality and in the end, you’re left with cheap plastic bowls that you’ll replace in 12 months.

I hosted a party through Cora and earned a lovely collection of Tupperware products. Then, she convinced me why signing up as a consultant for $110 was a good idea, and I did that too (see, I told you she was a powerhouse!) With my brand new products and consultant status, it was entirely up to me to decide what I wanted to do. If you don’t achieve the minimum sales needed to stay active, your consultant status will expire after three months. If, however, like me you end up buying so much Tupperware at such a steep discount (new products are also available for a ridiculous price for consultants, since they need them to use for shows and to show their friends and families!) you can actually maintain your consultant status longer from your own purchases (counted towards your personal sales) and that of your friends and family.

While some sign up for that purpose alone (my consultant status is gone and I’m thrilled with my pantry full of Tupperware), many others realize once signing up that Tupperware may be just the thing they need to make a change in their life. A few people I know sell it casually to family and friends – a party here and there – and have a nice discount to use and side income for splurging on a shopping trip. Others have a side-business and do a few parties a month. And then there are others like my friend Cora who quit her full time job at a university so she could stay home with her two kids, sell Tupperware full time and – oh yeah – earn trips to Disney World and a Ford Mustang.
