Snow White and the Huntsman

In this spectacular action-adventure, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) is Snow White, the only woman in the land fairer than the evil queen Ravenna (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron). Ravenna wants nothing more than to destroy her young rival, but she doesn’t know that Show White has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) the queen dispatched to kill her. Together with a handsome prince (Sam Claflin) enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power, they assemble an armed force to recapture the kingdom. This breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders is, in the words of Shawn Edwards, Fox-TV, “A film that soars with creativity, stylistic genius and amazing battle scenes.”

I missed this movie in theaters, by choice. Friends of mine were eager to plan a girls-night to see it but I shrugged my shoulders and wasn’t interested. I’m kicking myself now, because after watching this movie at home last night on DVD, I would have loved to see every last breathtaking scene on the big screen.

This is not your childhood fairytale.  The story follows the fairytale read to use as children but it takes on a darker, sadistic, mythical and paranormal twist for grown-ups.  I loved every minute of it!  I loved watching the story unfold and how elements of the innocent fairytale were brought into this version.  Kristen Stewart, still lip-biting and awkward as ever, captures Snow White well though the acting, make-up and overall props should go to Charlize Theron who embraces the evilness of queen Ravenna.  I actually felt sorry for Ravenna at times, but loved her evil reign too.

Are there dwarves?  Yes, though not the innocent happy little worker-bees that we remember.  Is there a kiss to save Snow White’s life?  Of course!  Is Snow White the demure princess from our childhood story?  No.  She’s tough, inspiring, and kick-ass.  Just like a princess should be.

Snow White and the Huntsman is available on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, DVD, On Demand and Digital Download on September 11, 2012, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. I haven’t been this excited about a movie in a long time – GET IT!
