Ford Escape for the Day

At the end of August, the Ford Escape for the Day tour made a stop in Saskatoon and I was one of the lucky social media influencers invited to the event.  The day was filled with great camaraderie, a test drive track full of squeals (both from tires and the participants) and the smell of burned rubber on the pavement, and information on the Ford Escape shared from Ford experts.

I visited the Ford test track in Dearborn, Michigan, twice now as part of the annual Ford Trends conference and both times the experience left me giggling like a 4 year old and with my heart pounding.  The test driving course in Saskatoon was no different – Ford gave us a series of obstacles and challenges to test the Escape’s braking system, maneuverability and our own reflexes.

The top photo in the collage above was taken after the most nerve-wracking part of the course for me.  We were asked to drive, pedal to the floor, straight towards a group of pilons representing a car.  Then, we had to watch the people who were (safely) on the outside of the course holding signs – whichever one jumped out with their sign would then be your signal to go in the opposite direction, turning hard and braking.  This was meant to represent a situation we could all encounter – driving along and having a child run out from behind a car causing a quick reflex reaction.  I may or may not have driven right through the pilons (um…car) in that scenario.  My reasoning after the laughter subsided?  Better to hit the car than a child running out, right?

The photo at the bottom where we’re running with a trunk was part of an excercise to show us the awesome foot-activated lift-gate available in the Ford Escape.  How many times have you been carrying groceries to your vehicle and had to put them down just so you could open the lift-gate to put them inside?  Or if you have a remote powered lift-gate, you still need to dig the keys out of your pocket and push the right button.  With this snazzy feature, the keys just need to be in your pocket or purse and one simple kick of your foot under the lift-gate can open it automatically.  Oh yes, mamas.

I think this event was a fabulous idea and I shared with the Ford representatives how impressed I was with Ford’s initiatives working with social media influencers like they do.  No other vehicle manufacturer in the country is doing as much or being as innovative as Ford is with social media and influencers.  They get it.

I can’t wait to see what’s next!

  1. Looks like so much fun! Hopefully one day I will get to attend one in WINNIPEG :)

  2. We rented a Ford Escape when we were down in Tennessee this past summer. I was very impressed with it. The leg room in the back was more than my mini van gives me, and there was a ton of cargo space. Plus it drove really nice.

Sounds like you had a blast!

  3. I saw a commercial for the new Escape with the foot activated gate-lift and I thought “Why didn’t they think of this sooner?!?” It really is a brilliant idea. My brother in law has an Escape and loves it…definately on my list when we are ready to buy a new car.

PS Looks like you had fun!

  4. Now *THAT* is a good idea – kick your car and the back gate opens??? Hahaha! Superb!
