Celebrating Moon Festival (with $50 grocery card giveaway!)

Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is one of the most celebrated holidays in the Chinese calendar.  It’s actually second only to Chinese New Year, so it’s a pretty big deal in Chinese culture!  Moon Festival falls on September 12th this year and on this date, families across the world will gather with brightly lit Chinese lanterns to share delicious Chinese cuisine with one another.

I’m always up for a reason to celebrate, and teach my kids about other cultures while doing so.

My kids love learning about the holidays and special dates of other cultures and it’s a fun way to break up the montony of day to day meals when we plan something special.

On Monday, September 12th, I might make one of my favorite meals – Teriyaki Stir Fry.  I used to make my own stir-fry sauce until I discovered VH Teriyaki Stir Fry Sauce.  It’s now my g0-to sauce for stir fry meals and if you were to look in my pantry right now you’d find at least 2 bottles (I’m a pantry horder!) at any given time.

Another favorite in my house (Elijah’s absolute favorite) is Salad Rolls.  I use VH Garlic Hoisin Sauce for this meal as a cooking sauce for the chicken and as a side dipping sauce.  I used another brand until I discovered that VH makes hoisin sauce too (it’s less expensive and tastes just as good, VH wins!)

I’m not sure which meal I will make to celebrate Moon Festival on Sept 12th – maybe  both?  Stay tuned, I’ll post how we celebrated next week!

In the meantime, if you’re looking for meal ideas to celebrate Moon Festival as well check out the VH Sauces page!   They’ve listed some great recipes using VH Sauces that you can create with ease (the Hoisin Chicken Salad looks delicious!)

If you don’t have time for an elaborate meal on busy school nights, check out new VH Steamers.  We tried 3 varieties just the other day for lunch (I had Kung Pao Chicken, Nevaeh had Zesty Orange Chicken and my hubby had Chicken Teriyaki) and I think my choice was the best!

To celebrate the Moon Festival September 12th and bringing culture into family meals, I have a $50 grocery card to give away to one of my Canadian readers!  To enter, just leave me a comment telling me how you bring culture into your own family meals.
