PUR Gum Giveaway (3 month supply!)

Are the ingredients in your gum important to you?  If you’re like most people, you probably raised your eyebrow with that question.  With everything else going on in our day, and with trying to find and cook the best meals for our family, the ingredients in things as small as a piece of gum likely don’t register high on your priority list.  And that’s ok, I’m the same way.  It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my first – swearing off caffeine, eating as healthy as I could (man did that ever go out the window with baby #3, ha!) and making sure everyone around me knew it, that I learned that even gum could pose a threat to healthy eating.  The culprit isn’t sugar, either.  It’s actually the chemical put in the gum to substitute for the seemingly evil sugar – aspartame.

I can remember a time when I was pregnant with baby #1, out with coworkers for lunch, when I popped a piece of gum in my mouth and a coworker pointed out that it had aspartame in it!  Here I was avoiding every unhealthy additive and ingredient I could and I was chomping away on gum with aspartame in it (I wouldn’t drink caffeinated soda or diet soda at the time, which I loved, so I was really ticked off that I was ingesting aspartame this way!)  I had no idea how many gum brands had aspartame in them until I started looking – it’s everywhere unfortunately.

I don’t give my kids gum very often – simply because at 6 and 3 my oldest kids end up swallowing it no matter how often I remind them it’s not to be swallowed.  Still, if my kids had gum often I’d definitely be searching out a brand like PUR that uses Xylitol, a substance produced by corn that has also been shown to help aid in digestion and helps to prevent tooth decay. A much better alternative to aspartame, don’t you think?

The above is just a quick comparison of PUR Pomegranite Mint Gum and a sample commercial gum on the shelves – interesting don’t you think?

We’ve been chewing PUR Gum in our household for the past month or so – in fact since we have several packages to sample it’s all we’ve been chewing.  AND, I’ve let the kids have gum more often than usual because, at the very least, it’s sugar free and aspartame free so even though they still swallow it I know that they’re not ingesting nasty aspartame in something as innocent as gum!  My favorite is definitely Pomegranate Mint!
