I don’t recall where I first saw the mamaRoo featured last year – whether it was on another blog or on the 4Moms (the creators of the mamaRoo) website – but what I do know is that from the time I saw it I became obsessed and knew I needed to get my hands on one for this baby. I had not seen anything like the mamaRoo before and couldn’t wait to try it. While discussing the review with the creators, 4Moms, a funny thing happened. More and more I started hearing buzz and excitement about the mamaRoo even among my friends here in Canada, even right in my own city. It seemed like the mamaRoo was making a huge impact on the mommy market, and it was making me yearn for this product even more.
So what IS the mamaRoo? Well, it’s not a swing, and it’s not a bouncy seat. It’s sort of a ride, sort of a miracle, and definitely a lifesaver for tired parents. mamaRoo’s tagline is “we move like you do”, which explains why this product is so phenomenal. Baby swings are awesome, they really are. In recent years, innovation has brought parents swings that not only go forwards/backwards but also side to side (who’d have thought, eh?) which was a big deal for awhile.
Then came mamaRoo! Not only does it glide side to side like the newest swings on the market, it also mimics many movements that parents make with baby in their arms. If you’re already a mom, you know these moves. Sometimes baby needs a little bounce or jiggle to get off to dreamland and many a parent has perfected the move that works best for their baby down to a science. mamaRoo has taken these moves and brought parents 5 basics.
Not only do you have a variety of soothing motions to pick from, you can also control the speed of each one. Everleigh seems to like the Tree Swing the best and on days when she doesn’t want to settle, the faster the movement the better. We use the mamaRoo at least twice a day – typically it’s the easiest place to put the baby during meals and most times she falls asleep in no time when in there. There’s also sound options on the mamaRoo including nature sounds and the ability to plug in your iPod to listen to your own music as well, but so far we haven’t even used them (I’ve opted to have baby sleep among the usual household noise so she is used to it).
We have a baby swing as well and my intention was to use the baby swing downstairs and the mamaRoo upstairs but so far I see no need to pull out the swing and have it take up room when the mamaRoo does everything a swing can do and more. The mamaRoo can be purchased at the 4Moms webstore for $199, and you can also purchase extra mamaRoo fabric seats for $39.99. I love this idea! I picked the green/chocolate color combo even though we knew we were having a girl, just to keep things gender neutral for whomever I pass this on to next. However, even if I picked pink/chocolate it would be easy to switch out the colors for $39.99. Even if this seat gets dirty with spit up and er..other things a baby brings, I like knowing that the seat fabric can be replaced if need be. US residents can enter their zip code to find a store near them that sells the mamaRoo and Canadians need not be worried, I’ve seen them in baby specialty stores in my area so they’re out there!
The mamaRoo definitely gets my approval and is one of my Must Have Baby Items!
If you know of an expecting mom, this would make an excellent gift (I know of a few people who purchased one as a gift from a group of coworkers, for example).
If you are expecting, even if this isn’t your first baby, sell your baby swing and invest in a mamaRoo instead! It’s so much more versatile than a baby swing and really is the next generation of products.
Kudos to 4Moms for creating the next big thing in baby products (yay for mom entrepreneurs!)
