Schwarzkopf Professional’s natural-based line, Essensity, revolutionized the industry when it launched in 2009 as the 1st professional colour, care and styling line free from artificial fragrances, silicones, paraffin, mineral oilsand parabens.
Other professional lines followed and the industry and consumers now have a new choice in choosing hair colour, care & styling products.
This year, Essensity is expanding its product roster with a brand new Colour shampoo, conditioner and leave-in mask, as well as a brand new Natural Shine Serum.
I was sent Essensity Colour Shampoo and Conditioner to check out. I have only used it sparingly because I am due for a color this week and want to use it full-time then to help maintain the new low-lights and hi-lights I’ll be getting.
First impression, the product smells great! It’s uplifting with the scent of grapefruit in both the shampoo and conditioner, and it works into a lather easily. I find that some shampoos and conditioners with natural properties don’t lather up as much, but Essensity does (hooray!) It left my hair easy to comb through (again, another issue with some naturally-based products) and I liked the smell all day (I’m big on scents, can you tell?)

I use color conserve by Aveda for my blonde highlights. Not totally convinced it makes a difference to the color, but it smells great and leaves my hair soft and shiny!

I use hair color on a regular basis. Last time, I had the hair dresser color it red with blonde highlights. This time, I went to color it myself and I have ended up with blonde and pink highlights. Needless to say, I am hiding indoors and will be recoloring this weekend. Fingers crossed!!

I have tried many colour preserving shampoos and conditioners. I find most to be about the same. Except Tresemme, which I find holds my red longer. (I tend to dye my hair a dark red, which is a stark contrast to my natural light blond hair.)

There is substance to using products meant for colour treated hair. I have used both, and after spending big money at the salon to colour my hair, I want to use specialized shampoos and conditioners. They do prolong the life of the colour.

I use a colour care shampoo and conditioner when I can find it on a great sale and I have a cpoun (the kind I like is super expensive for my budget) and I do think it keeps my colour in alot longer, and my hair feels SO nice for it.

I have never coloured my hair and had to deal with it fading or touching up roots. Not that I am opposed to doing it, a chestnut brown would be nice. Then the shampoo to kepp it vibrant.

I do find the hair care products for coloured hair are less abrasive.Its just hard to justify the cost as the salon/beauty store brands are like 3-4 times the cost.

I have never tried anything to help the colour last, so would love to give this product a try.

As a forever dyed redhead I try real hard to keep the awesome red lasting a long time. I’ve found that the color depositing products work best, together with washing your hair less frequent (gasp!),conditioner first- then shampoo (keeps pigments coated) and always using cool water to rinse!

I have had to color my hair since I went completely grey in my early 20’s. I have experimented with quite a few products that claim to prolong the life of your color. Honestly, I have never found a product where I could see a marked difference in how long I had to go between colors. I am still looking for a product that will prolong my color because my hair grows so fast, it costs me a small fortune to keep it colored!
