Leapster Explorer

New from Leapfrog, the Leapster Explorer is described as a learning experience!  Not just for games, the Leapster Explorer also has downloadable e-Books, videos and you can even connect your Leapster Explorer to a parent’s computer for online game play.

I’m a part of the Leapfrog Mom program in Canada, and as such I’m able to review various Leapfrog items with my family and friends throughout the year!  We were recently sent the Leapster Explorer from Leapfrog to review.

By registering for an account and logging in at Leapfrog Learning Path, parents can see exactly how their child is progressing on their Leapster Explorer (this holds true for all Leapfrog toys; they can all be under one account on the Learning Path site).

Games can be purchased in store or online, and there’s also the ability to purchase what’s called Leapster Explorer Leaplet Download Cards which includes 2 online codes to download from more than 20 Leaplet Apps so kids can play new games immediately (something very useful in the winter!!)

The Leapster Explorer comes with one Leaplet card/code so once I got the Leapster Explorer all synced up to the Learning Path site, I was on my way to download a game for Elijah who is 6.   Using your Leaplet code, parents and kids can choose between games, e-Books and videos to download, featuring favorite characters like Ni Hao Kai Lan, Dora the Explorer and more.

I picked the Dice Ahoy! game Leaplet for Elijah since it features pirates and math – hey you can’t  beat that for a 6 year old boy!  He has been checking out the game every day and refuses to let his little sister touch the Leapster Explorer.  I think we will get more Leaplet codes this fall and download some e-Books next for the car.

The Leapster Explorer from Leapfrog is best for ages 4 – 9 years and also comes in purple for girls!  You can purchase the Leapster Explorer online or at your favorite toy store – it’s brand new for Fall 2010 and I’m sure it will be a popular gift item this holiday season.  Leapster products in general are a great way to get your child interested in gaming like the big kids but with learning opportunities throughout!
